For women, having children is never a simple decision; it touches every part of their lives and future. Some hope to conceive naturally, while others turn to treatments like IVF, the most intensive option available. Another path is egg freezing, which gives them the chance to preserve their eggs for the future. For Angely Dub, founder of Access Travel and a podcast host, freezing her eggs wasn’t about feeling pressured by society’s timelines. It was about giving herself the freedom to choose motherhood later if that’s what her heart decides.

Why Angely Dub Chose to Freeze Her Eggs

In an interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines, Angely opened up about what it was like to go through the egg freezing process in Madrid, Spain, where she has lived for the past four years. She had thought about doing it in the Philippines, but options here are still limited.

Angely began, “The whole thing is very new to me, everything about fertilization, all these things. I am honestly still not sure if I want to have kids or not, but something just clicked for me.”

That click, she shared, came from reflecting deeply on her bond with her mother. Angely described how her mom remains the most important person in her life. “My relationship with my mom is so beautiful, like my mom is the most important thing in my life and she’ll always be. The love that I have for my mom is something I don’t have with anyone else, it’s just her. And I’m sure the love that she has for me is good. And I want to have that. I want to have that kind of love that is unexplainable, unconditional.”
It’s this understanding of love that shapes how Angely views motherhood. Still, she knows that having children isn’t simply about ticking off a life milestone. She said, “I know that love comes with a lot of sacrifices… It’s a very long journey. Yes, it’s gonna be hard. Honestly, I’ve come to the conclusion that having kids is a luxury nowadays.”

Angely shared that she felt a quiet unrest in herself before she made her decision. “I’ve been struggling,” she admitted. “As a single woman, nagawa ko na lahat ng gusto ko, travel the world, have businesses, experience fame, have a podcast, move abroad, study abroad. Halos lahat.”

After doing almost everything she dreamed of in her twenties and early thirties, Angely’s desires have changed. “I cannot imagine myself right now going to the Amazon rainforest and doing an overnight there like how I used to do in my 20s. Nowadays I want comfort. I want to live a good life. If I’m gonna travel, I want to stay in the Four Seasons.”

Instead of feeling guilty about this shift, she embraced it. She said, “I live my life by seasons.” Each chapter brings its own truths and needs, and for Angely, this season was about peace of mind.

“If I have the privilege, if I am capable of securing my future, because in the end, ako naman magbubuntis niyan, ‘di ba?” she said.

For Angely, egg freezing wasn’t just a backup plan; it was a way to hold space for what she might one day want without carrying fear. She explained, “I want to cut out the stress now because that’s why I’ve worked so hard. This is my body. Ayokong mag-struggle pagdating ng panahon na di ako mabubuntis.”

Angely’s Egg Freezing Journey

She went through the entire procedure quietly. Only her mother and a few close friends in Spain knew what she was doing. She shared, “Yesterday, I went to the clinic. I didn’t feel sad. I know, ‘yung ibang tao, iisipin nila, ‘Ay ang sad, mag-isa siya. Wala siyang asawa.’”

But for Angely, it felt empowering instead of lonely. “I’m not doing it for my future husband. I’m not doing it for anybody. I’m doing it for myself.”
The entire process was not without discomfort, especially when she had to take pills for the first time in her life. “Was it uncomfortable? Yes. Especially the first time I started getting pills… it’s the first time I took pills my whole life.” Despite this, her body responded well, something she credits to years of taking care of herself by avoiding smoking, drinking minimal alcohol, and managing PCOS naturally.

Of course, egg freezing comes with significant financial cost. Angely does not shy away from acknowledging this privilege. “Yes, this option comes with a privilege. But everything in life is. Going to school, securing our future, or buying a house, everything comes from a privilege.”

Angely knows not everyone will relate to her choice, and that is perfectly fine with her. She reminded women to choose what truly matters, saying, “You do what you think is going to be good for you. Because people, they’re gonna talk. Whether you’re single, or you’re freezing your eggs, or you’re pregnant, or you’re about to get married, people will always have something to say.”

“You do what will make you feel good. Not just today, not just tomorrow, but for a long period of time… That’s the most beautiful thing you can give to yourself. And there’s no Birkin that can beat that peace of mind.”
