Pregnancy will change your body.

“Yung pisngi ko, pa-siomai na.” True to her sense of humor, Alex joked about her weight gain during pregnancy. During one of her check-ups, she shared that her weight had increased from 48 kg to 70 kg. She was seven months pregnant at the time. She also had a hard time fitting into her old clothes.
It is normal to gain weight during pregnancy. According to the National Health Service (NHS) UK, “Most pregnant women gain between 10 kg and 12.5 kg (22 lb to 28 lb), putting on most of the weight after week 20. Much of the extra weight is due to your baby growing, but your body will also be storing fat, ready to make breast milk after your baby is born.”
Aside from weight gain, Alex also shared other physical changes, such as the darkening of her underarms and neck. She also experienced pimple breakouts on her face. On top of these changes, she said she had low energy and often felt tired.
“Lahat na naman ng plano, hindi magagawa. Kasi sobrang tinatamad ako. Sobrang pagod ang pakiramdam ko,” a tearful Alex shared.
Pregnancy can come with health risks and concerns.
Pregnancy can come with health risks and concerns.
There’s an old saying, “Pag buntis ka, nasa hukay ang isa mong paa.” While grim, it reflects the reality that pregnancy can come with serious health risks. In some cases, complications can endanger the health of both the mother and the baby.
Alex shared in her vlog that she experienced several health concerns throughout her pregnancy.
For a time, she was advised to go on bed rest because her cervix was slightly open. Alex was also injecting heparin twice a day to help prevent blood clots. At one point, she needed to see a cardiologist because her heart rate was rising.
On July 20, Alex shared that her blood sugar had started to rise. She needed to check it before and after meals using a glucometer, which required pricking her finger to get a blood sample.
It was one of the more emotional moments of her pregnancy, with Alex seen crying hard. She wrote, “Crying because I’m worried for my baby.”
She was later diagnosed with gestational diabetes in her third trimester. She needed to track her food intake and continue monitoring her blood sugar.
In her words, “Natakot talaga ako kasi nabasa ko na maraming pwedeng maging complication sa amin ni baby kapag hindi na-regulate itong gestational diabetes.”

Alex also opened up about pregnancy guilt, something many working moms may relate to.
“Bakit nga ba ako nagla-live (on TikTok)?
Kahit hindi ako pumupunta sa office o lumalabas, at least may nagawa akong work while I was pregnant.”
She joked in the end, “Siyempre, alam niyo rin na mahilig mag-shopping si mommy. Para hindi naman tayo masyadong pabigat sa asawa.”
Working moms may relate to Alex’s guilt. You know your body is already working hard to provide the safest possible environment for your baby, yet at the same time, you still want to be productive and contribute financially. It can feel like a constant push and pull of emotions.
It takes a village to support a pregnant mom.

The popular saying “It takes a village to raise a child” can also apply during pregnancy. Alex’s vlog showed how her own village supported her throughout the journey.
At the center of that village was her husband. Throughout her pregnancy, Mikee stayed by Alex’s side. From doctor’s appointments and pregnancy cravings to injections, he was there.
Alex’s closest friends were also there to support her. “Dahil first-time mom ako, nagpatulong ako sa friends ko na mga mommy na,” she said as they opened gifts from her baby shower. Her friends explained each item to her. They labeled clothes and other essentials according to age and told Alex, “Kailangan mo ito sa newborn stage,” and so on.
Pregnancy can be difficult and challenging, but it can also be a miracle in itself. Carrying a child for nine months and bringing that bbay into the world is an incredible journey amid all the challenges a mom may face.
And just like the ending of Alex’s vlog, all those hardships can feel worth it when you finally hear your baby’s first cry.
