We’ve been asking moms to share their party directory with us! This one is a first birthday party inspired by a children’s TV show. (Have older kids? Check out our directory for a 7th birthday party here.)
Lee and Tinette Coquia married in 2013 but did not think of having a baby right away. By the time they were ready, Tinette’s ob-gyn advised the couple try IVF (in vitro fertilization) after she had a hard time getting pregnant. The couple did not push through with IVF so imagine their surprise when they found that they were pregnant a month later. Their baby Cal was conceived naturally.
“From the day he was born, Cal never gave us a hard time. He is a very happy baby,” Tinette tells SmartParenting.com.ph.
For Cal’s first birthday party, Lee decided to go for a Sesame Street-inspired theme, since he grew up watching the popular children’s TV show. Both working in the corporate industry, the couple didn’t have time to DIY and instead relied on party suppliers to make their party a success.
Tinette’s number one advice: “Do your assignment and research on this because there are actually good ones who might not be famous in the party industry yet but can really do a good job.”

The couple splurged on three suppliers: food, photography, and entertainment. Tinette was able to save on dessert. “Instead of getting dirty ice cream which will cost around 4 to 5 thousand pesos, or other branded ice cream party suppliers which were way more expensive, I got Nestle instead and that was a lot cheaper,” she says.
