QC Mom Cherry Lopez (aka Errych) turned her house into a movie theater. Here's her story:
 
"We turned our own house into a movie theather covering the windows with black garbage bag . We had projector and played Toy Story 1. We had popcorns, sandwiches, etc. for the refreshments and after the movie they had spaghetti and chicken. After the movie we asked them for the moral of the story and gave out prizes to those who shared their insights.  Most of our guest are chuch members and are from indigent families so we made sure that our giveaways will be very useful to them. Naging hit yung theme namin kasi hindi talaga sila nakakapanood ng movies sa big screen.

What I can suggest po for those who has extra to spend, you can have food carts "outside" the "movie theater". You can have starbucks, popcorn, cotton candy, burgers, etc. so before they watch they can get their food first.  You can set up a tarp background as well for the moviegoers to have their pictures taken. and set up a red carpet para mukhang special screening yung effect. You can also have movie tickets as the invitation. and director's chair for the give aways. You can also indicate the viewing schedule on your invitation.  It would be better also if you'll consider the age of those children who'll be attending when choosing for the movie to watch.

Airline theme

Newbie member Anne Zhandra Dy-Tan of Tacloban celebrated Zachary's birthday with an Airline theme.

"The preparation was easy for me since we have a carpenter, we let him made a booth that will symbolize as the departure area, immigration, customs and Economy de luxe (for the nannys). Also, we had a big airplane as backdrop at the stage area which will serve as a photo souvenirs for all children who wants to take pictures in the window side. Also I bought lots of balloons at Divisoria for decoration and gliders for centerpieces.

My invites were also an airline ticket named Zach Airways. Written there was the boarding time and place.  And the name of passenger which is the person/s invited. And on the invite, I put there: wear ur best airline costume! "

Petting Zoo / Farm theme

Melissa Menes of Party Time Philippines shares their "hit" themes. One of those is the Petting Zoo/ Farm theme. The main attraction are the live animals which the guests are free to pet, feed and with horses to ride. Mel explains, "Themes like this must be done in an open-space venue. Our pets and animals come from Bio Research. It can consist of chickens and chicks, goats, bunnies, pigs and pool of fishes. We offer simple cages for take-home animals. Pony and well-bred horses are from riding schools like Manila Polo Club. We make sure that horse-riding is safe that's why we get only trained horses. Party themes that go with this kind can be farm, cowboy and western, shows like wonderpets and jungle junction. Another kind is the Zafari wherein we get exotic animals like snakes and turtles."
 
 
Fashion Walk theme

"This is a hit not only for girls but for boys as well" adds Mel. "Part of the program is a fashion show so the client will announce on their invitations that their invited guests will be a part of the show. It draws a huge participation from the audience. Girls can wear their most fashionable clothes and boys, their sports gear. The more props they bring, the more chance they will be picked for the 'best model' award. Sometimes, the party can be incorporated with make-over booths like Club Princess or Kids Salon. The girls will enjoy the glitz and glamour while the boys can show off their colorful punky hairdos."
"It takes 3-5 hours to set up the venue because a ramp has to be put up. It is recommended that venues for themes like this be held at club houses, activity halls and wide areas where the occupancy of the venue is not limited by time."

Outreach Party/Program
 
When the child is old enough to learn about social differences and starts to feel compassion for the less fortunate, it would be a good idea to suggest that she shares her blessing by celebrating her birthday doing an outreach activity. Program consist of simply feeding, handing donations and entertaining a group of kids who rarely experience joyful occassions that we commony take for granted.
You can choose your own beneficiary by coordinating with the office of the institution. Coordinating with your local Church can also be a good start. Inquire with your Barangay about adopt-a-Barangay program, which involves conducting an outreach activity.
 
Angelica Austria, an active church member of Christ's Gospel Fellowship in P. Ocampo Makati, shares how they do 5 outreach activities for the street children and the rewards they experience in their ministry.
 
Love Builders Community is a group composed of church members with a common passion for helping street children not only by feeding their stomachs but their souls as well. Some of our church members would rather sponsor and join our program than have their own party. We have five outreach locations within Makati area and every Saturday, we feed, even bathe them and teach them the word of God. The children are always excited to come. They feel loved and given importance, they learned that God loves them and has a purpose for them despite of hardship in life. This is something they don't learn since their parents don't teach them these and most of them don't go to school. Kapag nakikita ka nila yayakapin ka, feeling mo nasa showbiz ka at pag nakausap mo ang mga parents may mga pagbabagong silang nakikta sa kanilang mga anak. Isa ito sa nagbibigay kasiyahan sa aming mga teachers. I pray that God will touch more people to be part of this ministry.
