SP Community Hero Member Keih Liwanag, suggests that you use button pins instead of name tags. "Instead of the usual name tags for the kids, I exerted effort in getting the names of the kids prior to the party and gave them button pins with their names on it. Mas personalized. Mas nagustuhan ng kids. parang souvenir na rin nila."
Keih also suggests that you have a good reserve of prizes because all guests look forward to that. Giving as many awards like early bird, best costume, most participative, youngest and oldest guest, anything you can think of that goes with the theme can make the guest anticipate that there's something for them and builds excitement that they can be the winner for that category.

A cool game she had on her daughter Anne Keir's 1st birthday is all the grown-up guests will have to remove their shoes and place it in one area. The celebrant will pick a shoe she likes. The owner of that pair is the winner. Who says babies and toddlers can't conduct their own game?

Candy Corner 

Sr. Forum member Nadia Lim-Fernandine (aka mistiqshannen) got this idea from the net while searching for party ideas. The Candy Cart is so attractive with colorful candies, she improvised a local version using local brands.

"I got the gummy bears from a popular grocery at P154/500g,” Nadia shares. “Smaller packed gummy candies is at P84.00. The choco mallows are from Comfoods and they sell choco products including pretzels by the bulk at a very low prize at their factory in Chino Roces Ave., Makati. It's best to go there early like 9AM to avoid the long lines. Kettle Korn sells small packs at P10 each in selected kiosk locations and they accept reservation for bulk orders. Other sweets like jellies and stick-Os are easily bought from any grocery.”

”To save on cost, I borrowed containers from friends and relatives as well as jars, ceramics, glass bowls and I used some of my own like the champagne glasses. My brother-in-law who works in a hotel helped me with the set-up. He used his presentation skills to elevate the bowls."

“Cupcake tower or cake holder can also be used. You can really get creative n doing this, I even added balloons, photo frames of the celebrant and characters of the party theme. Dolls will also be great."
Having a Candy Corner is a great attraction for the guests. Kids can come back anytime while they are waiting for the program to start or even in the middle of the party when they are not participating in any games. They are handed a palm-sized carton container much like what is used for hotdogs. An adult has to supervise the candy corner because some containers are breakables and kids get excited.
It is best to buy candies from local suppliers and branded products. You can be sure it's BFAD approved. Sweets and edibles from open public market may be cheap, colorful and attractive but you can't be sure of the quality and safety.

Grace Garcia-Anonuevo (username: addicted2jakey), another Senior member added that she named her Candy Corner "Mr. Hooper's Candy Store" for her son Jacob's Sesame Street Themed party.

Candies and caring for your teeth

Neri Sanchez (neryssa), 25, of Marikina City thought of this fabulous idea for her daughter Yssa who is turning 1 on September.
Since too much candy is bad for the teeth, she thought of including a toothbrush with a small toothpaste in each goody bag. "I also want to put in her thank you tag: 'After eating lots of sweets, now it's time for you to brush your teeth!' ".
 
Face drawing game -
Adults are randomly chosen and each will have a cardboard over their faces. They will draw their face on the cardboard. "The audience really laughed at their drawings kasi  mali-mali ‘yung position ng eyes, ears, lips, etc. The person who was able to draw well or nicely, is the winner." Senior member Marikina Mom Wendy Manalo (wendystar) shares.
 
Costume accessories as giveaways
Sr. member Jary celebrated her child's birthday with fairy and pirates theme. "Yes, super hit ;yung fairy wings and eye patch na giveaways. Kasi usually hindi naman pinangco-costume ng mga moms ang babies nila sa mga parties kaya most often, ‘yung may birthday lang ang naka-costume..pero dahil dun sa fairy wings, wand, and head dress na binigay namin for girls, parang naka-costume na din sila...agawan nga eh.."
Eye patches can easily be made using cloth or black garter and board paper (cartolina). Fairy wings can be bought in department stores or cloth/accessories and craft stores like Carolinas. Mommy Jazz suggests balloon fairy wings. 2 long balloons at P5.00 each (cheaper by the bag) will cost you only P10.00 for a pair.

Instructions: 
1) Inflate 2 long balloons (called 260s) and leave 1inch tail on each.

 

2) Tie balloons together at the knots and the tail forming a big circle

 

3) Gather the part close to the middle of the big circle and twist forming a big "no.8"

 

4) Twist the middle and the knots of the balloons to form a "butterfly"

 

5) Slip 2 loops on both arms of the child. THe 2 other loops will serve as the wings. 

 

Goldfish giveaway and doll centerpieces
Medical Technologist Grace Garcia-Anonuevo's idea for her son Jacob Cedric's party giveaway is a goldfish in a bowl. This will be the kid's new pet and themed with Elmo's Dorothy for a Sesame Street party.
"For the fish bowl P50 each if more they could giv at P40, Aranque St in Divisoria, in Landmark they sell it at a bigger size for less than P100. The aquarium plants are P30.00 in Divisoria mall. Sand or pebbles are also available and cheap at Aranque. For the sign board, you can use a popsicle stick shaped like a frame and use sponge paper. Sponge paper is thinner than craft foam and water proof, available at SM dept store for P39.75 per pack.

To write 'Jacob's World' I used colored glue so it would adhere and would wash up. The fish bowl set-up was done at the venue. As much as possible the fish must be bought or delivered on the same day. "
For the table centerpieces, Grace made her own using character dolls and a lot of creativity. Deviating from the usual balloon centerpieces, she used a character doll to add a more lively ambience to the party. Her guests went gaga over it and had all of it already reserved even before the party started. The dolls cost her P60-P65 each at Divisoria. The craft piece materials are from department stores.

"I love going to Japan or Daiso store. They have hard to find craft things like a set of metallic sticks, googly eys (different sizes), and popsicle sticks - all at 66 each." Grace adds.

Nadia Lim-Fernandine also suggests that to keep the Kids busy, activity kits can be handed upon registration. This is for them to get busy while waiting for other guests. Waiting can bore guests of any age. It is not a good idea to put off the guests who are excited to get to your party to find themselves waiting for the others guests or delays in the preparation.
Full Member Grace (aka Makulitz) of Partymaarty offers Human Statues among her other party services. These artists are widely popular in the streets of Europe and now there is a Philippine version.

"Human Statues greet guests at the venue entrance. They are in costumes and they pose like a statue, then they move to the kids’ delight. Our actors are well trained dancers. They can move to the back ground tune to the delight of all the guests. It's a good party jump-starter

They can have face painting on the side while waiting for the program to start. We have Greek characters (Spartans), Peter Pan, futuristic, a lady princess statue, even Michael Jackson. Jabbawockeez is a hit and our actors can act it out very well. Human Statue attraction comes to an end when the program starts.

For packaged services, the actors can change character and do a bubbleshow dance (not your ordinary bubble show). We offer our Human Statues for P2,500. That rate is adjustable if package is availed and if the client is a member of the Smart Parenting Community."
