Most Popular Lootbag/Souvenir Trends for Kiddie Parties

Perhaps loot bags in birthday parties are derived from the popular Filipino custom of “pabaon”. It’s like giving your guests a part of your celebration that they can take away with them so they could continue the festivities at home, thus we moms would toil at making the loot bag the prettiest and its contents, the yummiest goodies our money could afford.

Nowadays, loot bags aren’t anymore as simple as they used to be. Mel Galarrita-Menes, owner of Party Time Philippines party planners, explains that rather than giving away lootbags, the trend these days is “to have souvenirs that are related to the party theme itself,” as illustrated below, and they don’t even need to be pre-packed:

1. Candy Bar / Candy Buffet
Instead of pre-made loot bags, kids can pack their own candy bags. You just have to provide a cute, personalized container for them to pack their own goodies in!

2. Storage Boxes or Wooden Stools related to your theme
For something re-usable, you can have mini-furniture customized as in these cupcake and chocolate bar storage boxes for this candyland-themed party. For only P90 each, you can give your guests a pretty reminder of your child’s party.

However, if you do prefer loot bags, here are some practical suggestions for you. Mel says, “SM and Toys ‘R Us are good places to scout for loot bag items since they sometimes have more affordable loot bag fillers than Divisoria! Toys ‘R Us is a favorite among party planners like us because they always have licensed loot bag goodies on sale!” She says it’s easy to fill up a loot bag for as low as P80/bag without having to go to far-flung Divisoria, which comes out more costly when you add gas, toll and parking expenses.

1.    Bubbles and Bubble Wands
2.    Mini cars
3.    Mini yoyos
4.    Water guns
5.    Plastic bracelets and shades
6.    Kiddie bottle nail polish
7.    Mini ping pong paddles

10.    Coin banks

For candies, Mel suggests the following
1.    Packed Cotton candy – always a party favorite, they’re cheap and fill up lootbags very nicely

2.    Barbie has released branded treats with really pretty packaging for loot bags, and they are available in almost all SM Supermarkets.

3.    Bright and colorful candy lollipops and marshmallow lollipops are also available in supermarkets, and they look great inside loot bags!

4. Oishi and other chips companies now provide smaller packaging of their products perfect for kiddie parties, usually priced at P2 each. They are favorites of kids and adults alike!
