Summer in the Philippines brings the sweltering heat. With its crowded streets and constant traffic congestion, Manila can feel extra scorching. If you're feeling the heat already, here are a few fun places around the metro to keep you and the kids cool:
1. Xrink at Robinsons Place Manila
Have winter in the summer and go ice skating! Don’t know how? No worries. XRink, which claims to be the first and only synthetic ice skating rink in the Philippines, will teach you the basics for FREE. We love the "training polar bears" skating aids. Kids can hold onto them to keep them upright and balanced when they are feeling a little wobbly in the knees. The skating rink also offers full course summer classes on ice skating, figure skating and ice hockey for kids who want to take their skating up a notch.
2. Various ice cream shops around the Metro
Cool treats not only keep the temperature down they make the tummy happy too. There are lots of ice cream parlors to choose from in Metro Manila. Some of our favorites include Papa Diddi’s in Maginhawa, Quezon City with its locally-sourced ice cream and cozy, kid-friendly interiors. If you’re down south, there’s also Phat Boys at The Yard Underground, Pasig City and their handcrafted ice cream sandwiches. Check out this list for more ice cream parlor suggestions.
3. Trails to Antarctica in Manila Ocean Park
Explore the coldest place on Earth without leaving the city at Manila Ocean Park's Trails to Antarctica: The Penguin Quest. Aside from meeting live penguins (!) and learning all about them, the penguin enclosure also includes other attractions like the Snow Village, Slide O'fun and more. For more adventurous kids, consider checking out the park’s Mermaid Swim Experience too.
4. Ace Water Spa
Cool off while you chill out at Ace Water Spa. Fun for the kids and relaxing for grown-ups, the spa has a lot to offer. There's a kids area with fun water attractions, water massage facilities, hot herbal pools, sauna rooms and more. ACE Water Spa is at Del Monte, Quezon City and Brixton Street (near Pioneer), Pasig City.
5. Water parks in Bulacan and Cavite
If you’re up for a short road trip as well, there are quite a few fun waterparks near Metro Manila. Check out 8 Waves Waterpark and Hotel in Bulacan, that we heard just opened a new attraction. There’s also Coolwaves Ranch and Waterpark Resort that's also in Bulacan, and the Oceania Swim and Splash Park located inside Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park in Cavite. Don’t forget the sunblock!
