  • Every year, we try our best to fulfill our children’s Christmas wish list — new toys, clothes, shoes, and books. But while we rack our heads trying to come up with the perfect gift, we’re forgetting one important thing: time is the most precious gift we can give our children.

Well, one creative grandma came up with a brilliant Christmas gift idea that doesn’t involve toys and can last until the next year. The best part is the whole family can enjoy it together!

Darlene Howell Waller from the United States gave her grandsons what she calls an “Adventure Box” containing 12 short brown envelopes decorated with stickers and labeled per month. Inside each envelope is an activity the family can do for that month.

For one month it’s bowling and laser tag with coupons for the gaming area. Another envelope contained movie tickets. There was also a trip to the horse stables, a theme park, and tickets to a ball game.

The kids don’t need to open all the envelopes on Christmas day. Instead, they open one envelope on the first day of each month — not only do they get a surprise but they also have something to look forward to!

Studies have shown that young people value experiences more than material gifts and making memories with the family is just as important to them.

Virtual PH is the newest virtual reality (VR) entertainment center in the metro and it’s conveniently located inside a mall in Pasig. It has a total of four zones which big kids will enjoy.

The first has various simulators of motorcycle and kart-racing games, and a roller coaster. The second is called an “Immersive Zone” with shooting games where you can walk, run, crouch, jump and shoot at zombies or aliens and it will all be reflected in virtual reality. There’s also a zone where you can play single-player VR games.

The last zone features themed escape rooms for three to six players. You use a headset to talk to your team and “touch” things inside the virtual room as you figure out how to leave it. Try the Alice in Wonderland: Crazy Clockwork, a fun puzzle-solving activity for kids.

Address: 5/F Ayala Malls Feliz, Marcos Highway corner J.P. Rizal, Pasig City. Rates vary per zone and per player and starts at Php120. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
