  • Kids have spoken! Their love for superhero movies have resulted in sequels in 2019, but many upcoming films are a retelling or a reimagination of old classics. No matter what kind of movie you and your kids end up watching, however, it will always be fun because it's the whole family who's on the sofa enjoying the experience.

    Here are the family-friendly movies* we're looking forward to watching in 2019!

    Mary Poppins Returns

    Emily Blunt takes over the Mary Poppins mantle from Julie Andrews, and Blunt is accompanied by the genius behind the hit musical Hamilton, Lin Manuel Miranda. In this film, the magical nanny returns to the Banks family decades after her first visit. Release date: January 8

    Bumblebee

    We don't know if this is an attempt to reboot the whole Transformers movie franchise, but having the adorable Bumblebee headline this new movie set in the 80s sounds promising we're in for a fun ride. Hailee Steinfeld is the Autobot's main human this time. Release date: January 8

    The Kid Who Would Be King

    The legend of King Arthur is reimagined, this time in a boy named Alex who finds the mythical sword Excalibur. With the help of Merlin, of course (played by Sir Patrick Stewart), he needs to lead to fight evil and save the world. Release date: Release date: January 23

    The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

    The sequel picks up five years after the events of the last film, and everything is NOT awesome. Invaders from outer space are wreaking havoc faster than they can rebuild! Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks return to make everything awesome again hopefully. Release date: February 13

    How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

    Toothless has a love interest in this movie, a beautiful Light Fury. And Hiccup's reign as chief and the dragons face an even more significant threat that may force them to leave their homes. Release date: February 22

    Captain Marvel

    In Avengers: Infinity War, we were left wondering if what we saw to Marvel Universe's heroes was real. You have to wait longer to know what happened next because Captain Marvel will first land in theaters first. She gives us hope because she is said to be the most powerful superhero of all time (Nick Fury called her to fix everything Thanos had done). Release date: March 8

    A streetwise 14-year-old can transform into an adult superhero simply by shouting out one word. His newfound powers soon get put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.Release date: April 4

    Penguins

    Slated just in time for Earth Day celebrations, this movie is about a penguin named Steve who joins millions of his peers to build a nest, find a life partner, and start a family. But he faces a few challenges like killer whales and leopard seals! Release date! April 19

    Robin Williams as the genie is a hard act to follow, but we have high hopes Will Smith will make it his own (and we will love it) this new Disney live-action retelling of Aladdin. Release date: May 24

    The Secret Life of Pets 2

    The sequel picks up from where the 2016 movie ended. We've seen what the pets do without their humans, and with first few teasers, it seems Max the dog, Chloe the cat, and Snowball the bunny there's a lot more we don't know. Release date: June 7

    Toy Story 4

    We didn't think we needed another Toy Story, but Woody and the gang are back. Their new owner, Bonnie, however, just got a new toy, Forky, and a road trip adventure is in order, as new friends show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Release date: June 21

    Men in Black International

    Yes, that's Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and we're hoping their incredible chemistry in Thor: Ragnarok will translate as well in the latest installment of the Men in Black franchise. In this film, MIB is facing its biggest threat to date: a mole in the organization. Release date: June 14

    Spider-Man Far From Home

    In Avengers: Infinity War, Tom Holland's Spider-Man was a casualty of Thanos' wrath, but this teaser tweet proves Peter Parker will live to see another day. In fact, he and his friends will reportedly spend their summer vacation in Europe (how fancy!) and will face off with the villain Mysterio. Release date: July 5

    The Lion King

    The first trailer aimed for nostalgic feels, as the upcoming CGI-animation recreated the classic animated film frame-by-frame (CGI Simba is cute!). Best to prepare your kiddos with the death that we all know will happen. Release date: July 29

    Dora The Explorer

    Angry Birds The Movie 2

    We're still sure what this sequel is about, but we'll see Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) again. New voice casts include Leslie Jones, Awkqafina and Nicki Minaj! Release date: September 20

    The Addams Family

    The Addams Family will face off against a greedy crafty reality-TV host as they prepare for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration. The 3D-reimagined characters will be voiced by Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Release date: October 18

    Sonic the Hedgehog

    Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, and James Marsden lend their voices to this video game-turned animated movie. Sonic is a fugitive after a cop helps him escape the authorities. The film has a more realistic take, setting it on Earth. No word yet if Tails and Knuckles will join him. Release date: November 8

At this point, we know little about it, just like what's been public about the much-awaited sequel of Anna and Elsa's story, Frozen 2! We're pretty sure there two movies are already in your radar.
