  • The long wait (six years to be exact) is over! Disney just released the new trailer for Frozen 2and we’re sure that kids and even adults are already excited for this next installment.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the movie’s plot, but there is already a stark contrast from its predecessor — the tone of the teaser is pretty dark with lots of sweeping orchestral music, drama, and action shots. We also see a glimpse of two new characters, leaving us with so many questions!

Here are the questions we couldn't help but ask after seeing the Frozen 2 trailer

    1. Why is the tone so dark?

Yes, we can already imagine concerned parents, but this is still a Disney movie. In the opening scene, we see Elsa with a determined look on her face, as she tries to cross a vast ocean. Later on, we see her surrounded by flames with Olaf the snowman.

Anna, on the other hand, runs out of a balcony with a shocked look as floating diamonds fill the screen. Next, Kristoff is seen riding Sven accompanied by a herd of reindeer, and Anna jumps from a cliff. All the while, the suspenseful background is giving us chills!

Just like the children who watched it six years ago, this new movie seems to say that its lead characters have grown up as well, and we can only expect new challenges that they have to overcome.

Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, says that she wishes she could be as fierce as Elsa. If the first half of the trailer is any indication, Elsa is just going to get more powerful and become a greater inspiration for the kids!

    2. Who can the new characters be?

There’s a wild theory going around the Internet that the female character is Elsa’s love interest. It’s a shocker, we know, but adult fans have been clamoring to #MakeElsaGay since the first movie was released in 2013.

But entertainment website IGN thinks the two new characters are the younger versions of Elsa and Anna’s parents, King Agnarr and Queen Iduna, and we cannot help but agree. This makes sense because the teaser opens with Elsa testing out her powers and it seems to us that the Frozen sequel would be exploring how her powers came to be. Which leads us to the next question…

    3. Could the King and Queen have powers as well?

This is another theory that we think is plausible. The new male character is seen floating in the air, and Elsa is battling with a strange fire. Could it be that the movie will show four elemental powers — earth, wind, water (ice), and fire? Maybe the King and Queen have powers, too, and Elsa inherited it!

Another theory is the snowflake in the movie poster actually stands for the four seasons — winter, spring, summer, and fall, which can also make sense since the new characters are seen playing with autumn leaves. The trailer does seem to show a lot of Autumn-Winter imagery — maybe Anna has powers, too?

To blow your minds further, actor Josh Gad, who voices Olaf, dropped a hint on his Twitter account:

    4. Can we expect another infectious song from the new movie?

The first movie’s success is thanks in part to the song, Let It Go, which gave kids (and adults, admit it!) major LSS (last song syndrome). But with the darker tone, will the younger audience still have something to sing along to?

The directors of Frozen 2 have said previously the sequel will be a musical, so fortunately for the kids (maybe unfortunately for the parents), they can expect more show-stopping numbers from the movie!

Excited for the movie? So is the rest of the world! The movie is slated to open in November 2019, and Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, promises it will be “an extra cold November, y’all.”

Well, the cold never bothered us anyway, so we can’t wait!
