Touted as the “epic conclusion to the Jurassic era”, the latest and probably the last installment of the Jurassic movie series, Jurassic World Dominion, is coming to Philippine cinemas this June 2022. 

Starring Chris Pratt, Jurassic World Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. We can also see in the trailer how Chris Pratt seem to have adopted a few dinosaurs and welcomed them into his home.

Your dinosaur-obessed kid, along with the whole family, will surely love this action-packed installment that is said to, "determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures," as the press-release from Universal Pictures says.

How to turn your child’s fascination with dinosaurs into a learning opportunity

Is your little one into dinosaurs? Your child’s fascination with them can cause “increased knowledge and persistence, heightened attention, and deeper levels of processing,” according to a study by University of Wisconsin and Indiana University researchers.

This insight is not limited to dinosaurs and covers other interests such as animals and trucks.

Developing an intense interest in a single topic, such as dinosaurs, happens between ages 2 and 6. But don’t worry about not raising a well-rounded kid, moms and dads. When they enter grade school, they’ll be taking up a variety of subjects and interacting with other kids.

For now, consider your toddler’s fascination with dinosaurs as a gateway to learning—and we’re not just talking about dino trivia.

1. Take this as an opportunity to nurture a love for reading.

Give them dinosaur books. The budol will be worth it.

2. Encourage them to ask questions.

Encourage them to ask questions that can stump even a paleontologist. It can be a test of patience especially for a WFH parent, but take a deep breath instead, and don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know,” to your dinosaur-crazy toddler.

Better yet, ask them to take a stab at it and do their own research, preferably while you’re busy working.

Instead of getting lost in dinosaur minutiae, think of the big picture: “Asking questions, finding answers, and gaining expertise is the learning process in general,” says Kelli Chen, a pediatric psychiatric occupational therapist, in an interview with The Cut.

3. Join your kid in 'loving' these creatures.

One more way to encourage your child’s interest in dinosaurs is for you to get interested in them as well. If science documentaries aren’t your thing, why not watch the 1993 smash hit Jurassic Park and the subsequent Jurassic films? Perhaps movie magic can help you see dinosaurs the way your toddler does.
