About the Tandang Sora Women's Museum
The Tandang Sora Women's Museum officially opened in Quezon City on February 19. It had a soft opening in January, coinciding with Tandang Sora's 213th birth anniversary. As you may have guessed, the museum is located in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
During the inauguration, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted the museum's importance in preserving and elevating the contributions of women throughout Philippine history.
"This museum is more than just a collection of artifacts—it is a testament to the strength, struggles, and triumphs of Filipino women throughout history," Mayor Belmonte shared. "Through its exhibits, we hope to inspire the next generation to continue advocating for equality, justice, and progress."
The museum's two-story, bahay na bato-inspired design was made possible through funding from the Office of Senator Risa Hontiveros, who also delivered the keynote address at the event.
It's a place where families can walk through the lives of pioneering women, from revolutionaries to everyday heroes whose contributions have been pivotal in building the nation. As Senator Risa Hontiveros said during the opening, "Finally, the stories of our women now have a home."
A Peek Inside the Women's Museum
Every inch of the Tandang Sora Women's Museum radiates girl power, with exhibits curated to help visitors of all ages appreciate the contributions of incredible Filipino women.

Upstairs, the "HERstorical Philippine Timeline" chronicles the impact of women in faith, leadership, peacebuilding, and revolution. Here, visitors can dive deep into the history of Babaylan spiritual leaders, the rise of women-led labor unions, and the growing presence of women in politics, arts, science, and media.
One of the standout exhibits, "Babaylan Ascending," sheds light on women's powerful roles as nurturers, fighters, and creators throughout Philippine history.
A special gallery, "Women in Action," highlights memorabilia and materials from various feminist movements, honoring the resilience and activism of women's organizations that have shaped the country's socio-political landscape.
Curator Sandra Torrijos, an artist, educator, and feminist, ensured that the museum does more than just tell stories. It also serves as a platform for engagement, learning, and advocacy.
The Women's Museum is accessible to all. Its facilities prioritize inclusivity, including wheelchair-accessible ramps, a lift for persons with disabilities, and a lactation room for nursing mothers.
