If there’s one thing that parents dread during school days, it’s the neverending question of: “Anong agahan natin?” This is often quickly followed by, “Anong babaunin ng mga anak ko?” Preparing breakfast and baon can be a daunting task, especially when time is short and mornings are hectic. More ingredients and steps means we have to wake up earlier to chop, dice, and cook. A more challenging dish often adds to the stress of getting everyone ready and out the door on time. Let’s be honest—breakfast and baon prep can be one of the most challenging parts of the day.

This is why parents are constantly on the lookout for breakfast options that can double as baon. Smart parents know that a two-in-one solution can be a lifesaver. Here are four convenient product options from Yummy that can solve your breakfast and baon dilemmas.

As a Filipino household, of course, one of our go-to almusal dishes is tocino. And while we usually prefer chicken tocino variants, I also regularly serve pork tocino as long as the meat is tender. Yummy! Tender Pork Tocino lives up to its name. The meat is soft, lean, and is made up of large and thin slabs. We prefer to cut tocino in small pieces before pan-frying. The result is caramelized tocino with a deliciously sweet flavor that the whole family enjoys. We ate an entire pack in one sitting and no one complained of chewy, hard, or malitid parts.

Breakfast suggestion: Serve with hot rice during school days, or with fried rice and eggs on weekends.

Baon suggestion: For a twist on the usual breakfast dish, try Yummy.ph's crunchy tocino or tocinokatsu recipe. Instead of simply frying the tocino, spend a few minutes to toss the cut tocino in a beaten egg mixture, coat with breadcrumbs, and pan-fry. The crispy tocinokatsu is a good alternative to the typical pork tonkatsu or chicken nuggets baon.

Yummy! Pork Luncheon Meat

A two-child household means we always have luncheon meat. So we were eager to try Yummy! Pork Luncheon Meat. Unlike the typical canned variety, Yummy’s version of luncheon meat comes pre-cut in a vacuum-sealed pack. The pack we opened had around 6 pieces and looked just like any luncheon meat, but the slices are thicker than I usually prefer—I generally like my luncheon meat thinly sliced as it comes out crispier. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I took a bite. Unlike canned luncheon meats, which can be dry, Yummy’s luncheon meat is juicy with a melt-in-your mouth texture. It’s also less salty compared to other kinds, making me feel less guilty about serving it to my kids.

Breakfast suggestion: Served with hot rice and fried eggs, or as a sandwich with slices of tasty bread.

Baon suggestion: My eldest prefers sandwiches for recess or snack time in school, so I’ll try this luncheon meat and cheese wrap recipe for her baon: slice the Yummy! luncheon meat in small pieces, add cheddar cheese, a bit of mayonnaise, wrap it all in a pita bread and toast. You can also wrap it in aluminum foil to retain the pita’s crispiness until snack time.

Yummy Hickory Smoke Flavored Bacon

Our family loves good bacon, and Yummy! Hickory Smoke Flavored Bacon did not disappoint from the get-go. The bacon came in long strips from the packaging and proved to be easy to cook to a perfectly crispy and delicious dish compared to other bacon brands. I was a bit worried at first about the “hickory smoke flavored” as it might be too strong for my kids, but I was wrong. The bacon had a good balance of savory and smoky flavor without being overpowering. Plus, it’s less salty than other brands, so I don’t feel as guilty letting the kids indulge.

Breakfast suggestion: Serve with pancakes and syrup or hot rice for a hearty start to the day.

Baon suggestion: If your kids enjoy pasta, consider packing spaghetti carbonara with bacon for baon. You can cook your pasta the night before then reheat in the morning. Mix eggs and parmesan cheese with a bit of warm pasta water in a bowl. Toss with pasta over low heat, and season with salt and pepper. Top with more parmesan cheese, Yummy Hickory Smoke Flavored Bacon, and serve.

Yummy Longganiza Hamonado

Here’s a confession: I’m the only one in our family who usually eats longganiza—but that changed after we tried Yummy! Longganiza Hamonado. The longganiza, which are not linked, are quite small and thin out of the packaging, and again, quite easy to cook and serve up, just like the other products in this lineup. Unlike other longganiza that have a strong garlicky or savory taste and smell, Yummy’s version is milder, with a hint of sweetness that appeals to everyone. The longganiza resembles cocktail hotdogs in appearance, minus the bright red color, which might explain why the rest of my family was more willing to give it a try. The meat was tender and lean, with no trace of litid or fat often found in other brands. Yummy! longganiza will make a reliable option for go-to easy to cook and serve dishes at home.

A litte tip: I also peeled off the longganiza casings for my preschooler, as it then becomes more tender without it.

Breakfast suggestion: Serve with rice and sunny-side-up egg for a classic Filipino breakfast.

Baon suggestion: Slice the longganiza and mix with scrambled eggs for a simple yet flavorful longganiza omelette that’s perfect for baon.

Breakfast and baon preparation don’t have to be stressful. And these Yummy! options will help you whip up delicious dishes that your family is sure to love—without you having to spend hours in the kitchen. A good breakfast will make it easier for everyone in the family to start the day on a positive note, and a tasty and nutritious baon will ensure that your children have the energy to take on the day’s challenges.
