Donuts just found themselves a worthy opponent with cro-nuts, the latest craze to hit Manila. People are raving about its flaky texture (like a croissant) and soft, cream-filled layers (like a donut), that I just had to try it! When I dropped by Wildflour at The Fort, though, i was told I'd have to come back the next day as they only make a limited number of them daily. I came back the following day and got a piece of this much-coveted cro-nut. The verdict? It was worth the wait. I'm coming back for more!

Available at Wildflour, 4th Avenue corner 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City. P120 each. For inquiries, call 856-7600.

    2. Welch’s

One of the things I've become wary of these last few weeks is the amount of sugar our everyday drinks contain. Sometimes we think we're drinking healthier by opting for fruit juices or iced tea instead of soda, without realizing that the sugar content may be just as high (check the label!). These same beverages are what our kids drink too (think about what you packed for his baon)!

It was a relief thus to discover Welch's grape juice, which comes in a 10 oz. plastic bottle. It's made from 100% Concord grapes, an excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants. I was told that Welch’s uses the entire grape in pressing the juice - including the skin, fleshy part of the fruit and seeds – where all of the healthy goodness of the Concord grape comes from. It's so handy too that you can send it to your child with his baon everyday.

    3. Shake n Roll
    Shake and Roll

Remember shaker fries? I was a fan of that 'craze', so I felt a bit nostalgic when I heard about Jack 'n Jill's new product, Shake and Roll. It's a potato snack that comes with a packet of Japanese flavoring which you pour into the bag and shake for added zing. What I like about it is that it gives you an option to eat it on its own (without the flavoring) and enjoy just the chips if you're watching your sodium intake. That makes it a healthier option, too for our school kids.

Jack ‘n Jill Shake and Roll comes in two Papanese flavors, Unagi Kabayaki (rich, smoky taste) and Salmon Sushi (a hint of wasabi). Available at leading supermarkets for P35.

    4. Campbell’s soup
    Campbells soup

I love soup, and in a meal I always prefer to have soup before moving on to the main dish. Problem is, there are times when I crave for soup even when I'm at the office, and there is just none available.

I was so delighted to have discovered Campbell's instant soup, which allows me to have a hot cup of soup wherever I am. Just pour the contents into a cup, add hot water, and you have comfort food in an instant! My favorite, the Mushroom Cheese with Croutons, is just the best!

Campbell's instant soup comes in a box of three packets. Available at leading supermarkets nationwide.

    5. Coco Quench
    Tropicana Coco Quench

While I try to drink as many glasses of water in a day, sometimes I look for a bit of flavor in my drink. I know though that water is the best for your body, but I discovered something that is just as healthy: Tropicana Coco Quench coconut water drink. It's refreshing, it's pure, and comes with a host of other benefits. It contains high levels of electrolytes, which help in the absorption and balance of the body’s internal fluids. It also contains cytokinins, which help regulate cell growth and division, thus minimizing aging. If your kid is into sports, this drink is perfect.

    7. Mister Donut Pon de Ring

If you want a twist to your usual donut snack, try Mister Donut's newest offering, the Pon de Ring. The chewy dough, topped with flavors kids love, are very tasty. I personally like the peanut butter flavor the most, but they have a lot of other variants as well: Almonds, Rocky Road, Sans Rival, Pistachio, Honey Sunflower, Cookies and Cream, and All Chocolate.  Other special toppings like gummy bears on their Candy Stars variant and Wafer Flakes can also be added.

Visit Mister Donut's newly-renovated branch in Greenhills. The 24-hours-open branch also offers an All-Day Breakfast menu, classic pasta dishes, and milkshakes.

    8. Lucky Me Pares Inasal
    Lucky Me Inasal

I love chiken inasal, and to have it in our favorite instant pancit canton just makes perfect sense. Say hello to Lucky Me! Pares Inasal, the kids' new snack favorite. I tasted it when a promodizer handed me a cup while doing my groceries, and because I liked it I bought a few packs.

    9. Pizza Hut Cheeseburger Pizza
    Pizza Hut Cheeseburger Pizza

My husband is fond of burgers while I prefer pizza, so when we're thinking of what to order for delivery, it's always a toss-up between these two. When Pizza Hut launched its Cheeseburger Pizza, I wasn't sure if the combination would work, but when we tried it, I could say that it does. It doesn't scrimp on ingredients -- there's a generous amount of burger bits, veggies and cheese (I love cheese!) -- plus kids may find its spaceship shape delightful.

Pizza Hut’s Cheeseburger Pizza can be enjoyed in Big Group dine-in meal bundles such as the Family Feast for 4 at 799 pesos only. Call their delivery hotline 911-1111 to order.

    10. Think Wink Oatmeal Choco Chip Cookies
    Think Wink cookies

I came across this very dense and tasty choco-chip cookie when I went to a Shell select store one time. Talk about great finds! One box contains 10 individually-packed cookies, perfect for hunger pangs or baon.

Available at Shell Select stores for P230 per box of 10. For inquiries, call Think Wink at 567-0730.
