10 Songs to Jumpstart your Morning Commute

We know how it feels. Nestled in that delicate space between sleep and waking up, grasping at the remaining threads of a dream. And then slowly, it dawns on you: you have to get up and somehow extricate yourself from that warm, comfortable haven of blankets and fluffy pillows.

We all have different ways of brightening up our mornings and psyching ourselves up for the busy day ahead. And with the commute in the metro getting more and more of a hassle, with trains getting derailed and the lines getting longer by the day, good music can help put you in a good mood and give you that much needed energy boost.

We’ve put some feel-good songs together that you might want to (legally) download and add to your morning playlist. Press play and enjoy.

“Hooked On A Feeling” by Blue Swede

We’re still not over the “Guardians of the Galaxy” high, and it’s largely because of its infectious soundtrack. Remember that opening scene?

“We Intertwined” by The Hush Sound

Upbeat songs are a must in energy morning mix tape, as is the case with this lively number by American indie rock band The Hush Sound.

"Good Enough" by Dodgy

This track by English Britpop band Dodgy has feel-good oozing all over it. We can just imagine you tapping to the beat and bobbing your head to this song released way back in 1996.

“You and I Both” by Jason Mraz

There’s hardly a song by Jason Mraz that we don’t like. Aside from the poetic lyrics, there’s such an energy and soulfulness behind his singing that is always so refreshing to listen to.

“Lisztomania” by Phoenix

Ever fantasized casually walking along a city sidewalk, hands in your pockets, and lip syncing ala in music videos? Well, that’s exactly the vibe that we get from this hit from French band Phoenix.

“Love Never Felt So Good” by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake

Even after the King of Pop passed away in 2009, his legacy to the music industry has never been more palpable. Originally part of a demo track co-produced with singer-songwriter Paul Anka, it was reworked into a duet with Justin Timberlake. This one may be “new”, but to us, it's already a classic.

“Best Day of My Life” by American Authors

From the title of the song itself, we can already feel and soak in all the positive vibes. From the lilting first few notes, the sweeping back-up vocals, to the passionately sung lyrics, we just have to nod and sing along.

“Junk Of The Heart” – The Kooks

They say that every song is really actually about love. And this song pretty much evokes what would be difficult to ever translate to English: kilig. An approximation for the effect the lyrics “I wanna make you happy, I wanna make you feel alive”? Butterflies.

“O-o-h Child” by The Five Stairsteps

We had to consciously make an effort to put just a few songs from the fantastic Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Let’s take a breather and chill out to this 1970 number from Chicago soul family group, The Five Stairsteps.

“I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles

Fast forward to 2014, where we cap things off with an amazing song by singer-songwriter and musician Sara Bareilles. In this creation which Bareilles dedicates to engaged couples, she gives listeners a dose of her syrupy sweet, soft, and yet incredibly powerful voice.
