Gabby’s 7th Birthday

Theme: Bowling Blowout/Bash
Venue: Bowling Alley, Manila Polo Club
“For her 7th birthday party, Gabby wanted a more ‘grown up’ theme.  (She had a carnival party for her 1st birthday, a jungle party for her 2nd birthday and a space party for her 3rd birthday.) This celebration was held on the 4th of July, and since Gabby had celebrated this holiday when we were living in the States, I wanted to combine 4th of July colors with the bowling theme.  Naturally, colors were white, red and blue. We also had bowling-themed tattoos and bowling-themed jewelry.”
This part was much simpler than the ones she used to have when she was younger, but Gabby was happy to have most of her classmates celebrate with her.  Also, it was really great that she was old enough to help me plan and prepare for her own birthday party.”

On choosing the birthday cake: “I bought tiny bowling ball sets so that I could put the pins on the cupcakes.  Then I got a big bowling ball set to put on the cake.”

On the games: “The main event was bowling. But Gabby thought of the only game herself.  She made a poster for Pin The Ball On The Bowling Pin."

Backyard Bash
Miguel’s 2nd Birthday

Theme: Pinocchio Party
Venue: The family home
“Miguel really loves the movie, so it was the perfect theme for his second birthday. Even if it was going to be a simple affair, it was still so much fun to plan the craft activities, favors, and cupcakes in a hands-on, “homemade” way. Invites were designed on the computer by my brother, and my good friend gave me her old extra decor which I used for the ceiling. I made centerpieces out of the favor bags and little buckets filled with goldfish crackers, popcorn, and other treats. Miguel’s guests loved how the celebration was very relaxed, without the usual loud music and hosts. For the afternoon’s entertainment, we had Pinocchio-themed projects, and the kids played in the yard on the swing set or the ride-on toys of my kids that I put out. The party had such an easygoing feel that guests all looked so happy in the photos.” – DIY and craft-conscious mom, Anna

On the birthday cake: The adorable cupcakes were made by Peachy Juban of Shortcrust.

On the games: The games were all Pinocchio-inspired. “Kids played pin the tail on Pinocchio "the donkey version", and just like Geppetto, assemble and paint your own wooden toys!”

On the giveaways: “I prepared brown paper bags with a Pinocchio print-out on a clothespin, filled with goldfish crackers, crayons and a CD of Pinocchio songs. The CD cover was printed in black and white so kids could color the picture in with their crayons.”

Once Upon A Time
Ines’s 5th Birthday

Theme: Fairy Tale Party
“Last year my daughter, Ines, had a fairytale birthday party with her playgroup friends.  To set the mood, we asked her guests to come as their favorite storybook characters. We had a lot of princesses, Peter Pan, a knight, a mermaid, and so many cute characters. Of course it must have helped that it was just two weeks after Halloween! Ines came as her favorite Little Red Riding Hood and wore her cape the whole time. For games, we had Storybook Trivia, Name That Story. Here I showed kids pictures from different fairy tales in "classical illustrations, and made sure none of them were Disney pictures! For the giveaways, I found paperbound storybooks in National for less than P50! Of course her cake was a castle.” – Fairy Godmother, Karla
