  • No one wants to use a smelly bathroom with dirty floors. At home, the bathroom is one of the spaces where you can relax and take a break (hopefully, the little ones are asleep). But if you’re a family who shares one bathroom, chances are, you are dealing with a messy space almost on a daily basis. Aside from cleaning it efficiently, there are different things you can do to give it an instant makeover. After all, if you can’t schedule a trip to the spa, you can always take a soothing bath in your own bathroom.

Here are six makeovers that will inspire you to create a brand new bathroom that’s prettier than your favorite spa

    Decorate with plants

In revamping this plain and standard condo unit bathroom, the owner worked with indoor plants, handmade décor, and all-white bathroom fixtures. Choosing white pieces makes the space look bigger while the addition of plants gives it a refreshing vibe. Worried that your plants won’t survive in such a humid area? Plants like aloe vera, spider plant, bamboo, and other hanging plants thrive in low light and can even give a small bathroom an upgrade. Click here to see the complete makeover.

Over time, tiles show signs of wear and tear, from chips and cracks to fading color and the presence of molds. If you cannot stand it any longer, you can always save up for a major redo that involves changing the tiles in your bathroom. In the makeover above, the designer chose to replace the old tiles in pink with cement ones and patterned pieces to double as accents. It looks extra classy, don’t you agree? To complement your tiles, make sure your clothes are neatly stored in cabinets, with dirty ones placed in the hamper. Click here to see the complete makeover.

    Maximize the space

If you’ve been blessed with extra floor space (a blessing indeed, if five to six people are sharing the bathroom!), you can make precise adjustments with the layout to make the most of it. It might be best to work with an interior designer or a design professional to avoid mistakes and unnecessary costs. Depending on your family’s needs, you can incorporate a laundry area into your bathroom or even a vanity nook. Since storage is essential, you can have shelves installed to serve as a mini walk-in closet. Click here to see the complete makeover.

    Practice safety first

To complete the makeover, the designer used different tiles and added a step-up to make sure the elderly user doesn't slip.

Aside from your kids, do lolo and lola use the bathroom, too? If the answer is yes, it’s best to have grab bars installed to make it easier for them to move around the bathroom. Choose non-slip tiles to avoid accidents, and make sure the area is well-lit. In this makeover, the designer made sure the bathroom will remind users of hotels by bringing in fake plants as décor and incorporating a niche as storage for soaps and shampoo bottles. Try painting the walls

Keep an all-white room from being boring by sprucing up the walls with framed prints.

If the budget is tight, your bathroom can definitely benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Work with white to open up space and make it more inviting. Having white walls makes it easier to bring in different accessories, but you may want to pair it with touches of blue to make it extra calming. Worried about how white walls get dirty quickly? The secret is cleaning it regularly and giving the walls a good wipe down to avoid stains. Click here to see the complete makeover.
