Ang Bilis! This P800K Retirement Home Was Built In Just 6 DaysThis cozy prefab home in Laguna also has a dipping pool and a kubo.
Just like many families, Jomar Rabajante and his family felt the impact of the pandemic on their social activities. With the enforcement of lockdowns at the height of the global crisis, the Rabajantes could no longer go on overseas trips together.
"My dad, nag-retire siya nang pre-pandemic around 2019," Jomar tells the OG team. "And sabi niya gusto niya—coming from the retirement benefit na nakuha niya—may tangible na makita.
"And then nangyari ang pandemic around 2020. Gusto naming mag-bonding, kaya lang hindi puwedeng pumunta sa mga public area kasi pandemic."
A speedy alternative
That's when they decided to build a new home in Laguna, where they could spend their quiet moments together and, in the future, entertain relatives and close friends.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Wanting to conserve as much of his father's retirement benefit as possible, Jomar went online to research about affordable alternative housing methods.
Because of his work, his siblings still being in school, and his parents being both senior citizens already, Jomar realized that the house had to be built over a short period of time since they would have a hard time supervising it during the construction phase.
That's when Jomar stumbled across prefabricated homes, which, to his delight, were not only considerably easier on the pocket, but could also be built in as little as a week.
Old and new combined
Today, the Rabajante family's 72-square-meter house has all the charms of a typical Filipino home: a mix of old and new elements.
In the living area sits two TVs; one of these a fully-functioning cathode ray tube (CRT) set.
The dining area, similarly, features a dining table from the home of Jomar’s parents.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
Over in the corner sits a telescope that Jomar purchased online, and on a bookshelf, old encyclopedias.
Upstairs, a balcony gives dwellers a refreshing view of the surrounding lush farm landscape, as well as a generous amount of space for lounging, exercising, or other recreational activities.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
On the second floor is the bedroom, where bamboo beds complete the farm feel, with a view of the greenery through large sliding glass doors that open onto the balcony.
Outside the main house, Jomar's dad enjoys tending to a garden. A kubo serves as a secondary dining area, connected to a kitchen at the back.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
True to its intention of being a bonding place for relatives, there is also a dipping pool in the yard for both adults and Jomar's little pamangkins.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
A worthy investment
All in all, the Rabajantes only spent P800,000 for their prefab home, and it was constructed in just six days. In fact, Jomar says even the fences and the kubo took longer to build.
"Itong bahay na 'to [ay] typhoon-proof, earthquake-proof, at fireproof," he says. "Unang-una, itong mga bakal na 'to ay talagang may insulation sa loob na hindi agad masusunog in case magkaro'n ng fire. Rust-proof din 'tong main columns na 'to, kasi well-coated talaga 'tong metal na ito.
"'Yon ang motivation dito, na meron kaming magkakapamilya. Kung gusto naming mag-rest, umalis do'n sa usual na routine ng pang-araw-araw namin, dito kami pupunta."
