The prospect of reducing our use of plastic can be pretty daunting, especially since we use so much of it in our everyday lives. Making "ecobricks" presents an easy way to recycle plastic—all you have to do is tightly pack a water bottle with clean plastic, which can be upcycled to become lightweight and hardy construction materials instead of ending up in a landfill.
There are a number of environmental organizations that gather ecobricks at drop-off points all over the country, but now, Robinsons Easymart has joined in. The supermarket chain offers free metal straws or glass water bottles—also good things to have in the war against single-use plastic—to exchange for ecobricks.
To get a metal straw or glass bottle, all you have to do is bring ecobricks in any of the following amounts:
