  • Illness was not going to stop Pedro Villarin from walking his daughter Charlotte down the aisle on her wedding day in Metro Manila, Philippines, on August 9, 2018.

The proud father was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer in June 2018, and was doing well until a few weeks before the wedding. Pedro ended up bedridden on the big day but he was still determined to be there for his little girl.

Law Tapalla Photography captured beautiful images of Villarin as he was wheeled up the aisle, clutching his daughter’s hand while laying on a stretcher. Speaking to local media, Charlotte explained the family had hired an ambulance and private nurse to help on the day.

She went on to say, “We thought he would be able to sit on a wheelchair, but he couldn’t take it and used the stretcher from the ambulance instead.”

According to ABS-CBN NewsCharlotte and her husband, Mark, who were both working overseas, had to move  the date of their wedding earlier because of her father's condition. Charlotte was hesitant at first, but decided to grant her father's last wish.

"Parang ayoko since baka di ko kayanin magpakasal knowing na iniisip ko condition ng father ko pero naisip namin, sino ba kami para ipagkait sa kanya yung moment na pinakaaantay niya?" she told ABS-CBN News.

(I was initially hesitant because I don't know if I can marry knowing that my father was sick but then I thought, who are we to rob him of the moment he dreamed of?)

Villarin died in the days following the wedding, and on August 12, 2018 Charlotte shared a sweet moment between her and her dad from her wedding day in memory of him on her Facebook page.
