Despite being sick herself, this inspiring 12-year old has created a stuffed animal pouch that young patients can use to cover intravenous therapy (IV) bags.
Ella Casano, who was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) when she was seven, had the idea to make the Medi Teddy to make IVs less intimidating to other kids in the hospital.
“When I had my first infusion, I was surprised and a little bit intimidated by the look of the amount of tubing and medical equipment on my IV pole,” Casano wrote on the Medi Teddy website.
“As I saw more and more children experiencing the same feelings, I became more interested in creating a friendlier experience for young IV patients, so I created Medi Teddy.”

Casano plans to give the bears away to children in hospitals for free, and a GoFundMe has so far raised $18,638 — smashing the original $5,000 goal.
The 12-year-old has patented her idea and has already found a manufacturer to produce the Medi Teddy.
“Yes, I am proud of her, but more than that I feel happy for her,” her mother, Meg Casano, told Fox 10. “She’s endured so much, missed so much, and tolerated so much and I’m so happy to see her so thrilled that her idea is taking off.”
