Ever since Mayon Volcano started showing activity on January 13, the mountain known for its "perfect cone" has been the subject of many photographs that have spread like wildfire on the Internet. Images have documented the volcano's volatility, from lava trickling down from the crater to a massive ash column spewed days later. The alert level has been raised to four out of five, and tens of thousands of residents (and animals) in the danger zones have been evacuated.
Still, Bicol tourism advocate Renato Jao couldn't be more right when he said that "the 2018 Mayon eruption should go down in history as the most photographed, well-covered eruption ever." We round up photos that show this "beautiful disaster," as people online are calling it.
