Grandparents are irreplaceable in our children’s lives. Whether our kids are still small or all grown-up, their lolos and lolas will still shower them with the same amount of love and affection.
Because of the quarantine, some kids are still unable to visit their grandparents for the reason that they are keeping their lolo and lola’s health and safety in mind. However, others are lucky enough to have extra bonding moments with the seniors, just like Daniel Joseph “DJ” Rocio, who recently went viral for his rendition of "You Are My Sunshine," accompanied by his 82-year-old Lola Vilma and 92-year-old Lolo Cesing. The video has gotten over a million views on Facebook since he uploaded the video on June 2020.
“I’ve been wanting [for] this to happen — [to] jam with my 91-year-old Lolo and 82-year-old Lola. This moment is priceless and surely one of my favorites,” DJ writes on his personal account.
In an interview with Summit Media, DJ shares that he has always admired the musical prowess of his grandparents. Lola Vilma was a member of the Sorsogon Choir while Lolo Cesing is an El Rodarc singing group member.
“Nagsimula po ‘yun noong bata pa ako. Pinapanood ko na sina Lolo at Lola na kumanta, tumugtog ng instrumento,” DJ says. “Madalas kinukunan ko sila ng video kasi manghang-mangha ako. Doon ko siguro nakuha ‘yung hilig ko sa musika.”
Thanks to the quarantine, he was finally able to fulfill his dream of performing with his lolo and lola. While he sang and played his guitar, Lola Cesing played the harmonica while Lola Vilma also sang with them.
It was such a beautiful moment that DJ felt compelled to share it to the public. And it was a hit with viewers who couldn’t help but relate with DJ’s relationship with his grandparents.
Lola Vilma and Lolo Cesing were also proud of their performance! “Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila dahil ‘yung mga kanta namin ay nagustuhan nila. ’Yung mga kanta na hindi na naririnig, narinig sa amin,” Lola Vilma says.
