It’s all over the news. Kris Aquino finally broke her silence on showbiz talk show The Buzz and announced that yes, her 5-year marriage with husband James Yap is over.
News started circulating about the big breakup when Kris failed to attend an outreach program in Cebu City last June 22, Tuesday, because the couple were experiencing problems.
"I just want to say na whatever decision I have come to, it's not a spur of the moment decision,” Kris said. “James and I both tried to really make this work. On my part, what I'm comfortable saying is, with finality I can say, ako sumuko na,"
When asked to give details behind her decision, Kris refused to give details and stated that the only person who has a right to ask her for an explanation is her two-year-old son, Baby James. " He deserves to hear it only from me and only from James. Because in any separation, there are two sides to the story. And we owe it to him, James will owe it to him, that I will owe it to him to explain to him," Kris explained.
Kris shared that it wasn’t just the upcoming inauguration of brother Noynoy Aquino which made her keep silent about the issue, but about whether Baby James would be able to accept her explanation at this time.
“My decision to keep quiet is because I asked myself 'Kapag in-explain ko kay Baby James, number one, mauunawaan ba niya ako? Number 2, rerespetuhin pa ba niya ako? At number 3, mamahalin pa ba niya ako?' At nasagot ko naman kagabi na 'yes.' I know my son will understand me, will respect me and still love me. And I feel that he will love me more, respect me more, and value me more if I keep quiet today.”
Kris also shared that she and James will be fixing the legal arrangements soon and that she is doing all of this for Baby James.

February 2007:
Hope Centeno, a receptionist at a dermatological clinic, claims that she had a 10-month affair with James and is pregnant with his baby. Kris was then still pregnant with Baby James. The issue caused Kris to withdraw her endorsement of the clinic. James issues a statement denying the affair.
December 2009:
The couple quarreled on Christmas Eve and James left their home but returned on the same night. A report said that the cause of the misunderstanding was Kris’s busy showbiz schedule with her nightly showbiz program SNN and almost daily taping for primetime soap Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.
January 2010:
Kris Aquino and sons Joshua and Baby James move out of their house in the midst of then rumor circulating about husband James Yap and rumored girlfriend, Mayen Austria. “I just need time and space to think...in my heart I still want it [their marriage] to work,” she said on The Buzz last January 18.
At that time, Kris was opening up about how difficult it was to be the only one pitching an effort to keep the marriage afloat and how she valued assurance in their relationship. She also categorically denied causing a scene at the Austria residence.
Despite these problems, Kris admitted that she still loves James and that they just needed space to sort things out. A week later, the couple reunited and admitted that they were both trying hard to strengthen their marriage.
February 2010:
Kris gives James and her children P5 M worth of property as birthday gift.
May 2010:
Kris announces that she will be ending her hosting stint with her two showbiz talk shows SNN (Showbiz News Ngayon) and The Buzz after a discussion with her sisters Ballsy, Pinky and Viel.
June 2010:
June 18: Kris suspends her Twitter account, itsmekrisaquino to keep “what is left of our privacy,”
June 23: Friend and co-host Boy Abunda reveals that the couple “are not okay yet.”
June 27: Kris announces the end of her marriage on The Buzz.
