With Christmas nearing, we're sure that many of you are busy filling your carts with gifts for your loved ones. But gift-giving season isn't just about physical gifts — if you ask moms, non-material presents like love and quality time are enough to make them happy. Sometimes, these are even more memorable than any other gift!
On our parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, one member asked: “What’s the best gift you've ever received from your partner or spouse?” Their post got so many answers that warmed up our hearts.
The best gifts parents received from their spouse
Their children
Truly, nothing gives more joy to our moms and dads than their kids. They are a gift that no material thing can every amount to.
While it's hard to care for a child, raising one with your partner makes your relationship even stronger as you conquer hardships and sacrifices together.
The different ways they show their love
At the end of the day, rather than receiving an X amount of money, parents (moms especially) choose to receive and feel the love from their partners. Whether it's by being supportive, loyal, patient, and more, our SP Village moms and dads proved that love is the greatest gift of all.
“Gift? Being supportive [of] what I am doing. Sabi noon, walang pera sa laro at pantamad daw trabaho ko (IT staff ako hehe) but my spouse is the one who believed [in] me. Kapalit non, I am giving and showering her with love, quality time, and gifts.” — John Henry B.

The sacrifices they make for the family
Nothing is more heartwarming than seeing your partner persevering and sacrificing themselves for your family — whether as a working or stay-at-home parent. Not only does it make you feel loved, it also makes you feel safe and secure.
“Nagkaroon ng maayos at permanenteng trabaho.” — Marianne TC.
“His sacrifices and being our fortress especially during [the] pandemic.” — Marnelz M.
“Devotion to family. Him being the stay-at-home dad and running the household like a pro is more than I could ever ask for.” — Arvie D.
“Araw araw nya akong inaalagaan pati mga bata. He cooks for the family and cleans the house. No need pang sabihan. ‘Pag extra pagod ako, automatic siya na maghuhugas ng plato. Hate na hate ko yun eh.” — Arvee SC.
“His decision to migrate.” — Jojie JV
“Being the leader in our family. He provides direction.” — May RV
“Aside sa everyday sacrifices nya, itong nagpa-vasectomy sya nitong buwan.” — Ladylyn GF
Putting their family first
Quality time also makes it to the list of best gifts that moms and dads received from their partners. It is through time that you can create memories and prove how valuable your partner and family’s presence is to you.
“ Quality time and good memories during [the] pandemic. In short, mas maraming 'date' ngayong pandemic.” — Rachel RM
“Materials things na binibigay niya ay hindi ko masyadong naaalala. I value more yung bonding with the kids or when we have date night or simpleng kakain lang sa labas. Actually, ang pinaka memorable [pa] is when he sings to me a love song.” — Zhane AJ

Mommies and daddies really said: “Our partner is the best gift we’ve received. No questions asked.” and it just made us go “Aww!”
It seems like the simplest answer but it also carries the most weight. We can feel how much they value their spouses. Love is indeed a beautiful thing.
A place they can call their own
Having a family is already special, but so is having a place to call your own. As many of our Home stories prove, a house — whether rented or bought — is one of the best gifts you can receive from your partner.
“The decision na bumukod, his continuous care for our daughter while I work, and his dedication to have his own business (aside from the one we own). All that, despite his chronic illnesses.” — Cza GF
“House. Rental man or sarili, basta may sarili kaming space.” — Bianca M
