Kathryn Bernardo Tells 'Lolo Sir,' 'I Will Always Check On You,' And We Should Do The Same To Our Own

Kathryn Bernardo, who played the role of Ali in the Kapamilya television series, 2 Good 2 Be True, wrote a letter to her co-star Ronaldo Valdez aka 'Lolo Sir.'

Her letter, which was posted on her Instagram account on November 15, the actress revealed how she used to just dream of working with the veteran actor.

"My dearest lolo Sir, I don't know where to begin, but maybe let's start with a fun fact? I've been your greatest fan since Cedie and Munting Paraiso. Whenever people ask me, "Sino dream mo makatrabaho?" My immediate answer would be, "Mr. Ronaldo Valdez." Fast forward to 2021, it seemed like God answered my prayer because you agreed to do this project with us. You probably have no idea how much it meant to me and how excited I was."

"You are the lolo I never had."

"On our first day, for our first ever scene togehter, I was sooo nervous! I tried to remain as calm as possible, and started to make small talks with you, in between set ups (I'm not sure if you noticed that). End of cycle 1, I really wanted to ask you for a photo but I was too shy. So I told myself, bawi na lang ako in the next one! I tried to get to know you day by day, cycle per cycle, then whoosh! We just clicked. I had no idea you were as matakaw and into sweets just like me! And oops, pareho din tayo iyakin. Hahaha! God knows how much I enjoyed doing every scene with such brilliant and genuine actor like you, Tito Ron.

"Sometimes I need to wake myself back to reality because I realize nanonood nalang ako sa'yo sa scene."

"I remember doing this one scene with you (lolo sir appointing Ali to be his legal guardian). As I was preparing, I had no idea that you were waiting for me via Zoom to give me much-needed support for that very special scene. You delivered your lines virtually as we shot the scene just to be sure I deliver the right emotions. You have no idea how much I appreciate that, Tito Ron. Ali wouldn't be effective without lolo Sir. I wouldn't have been able to do every single scene if not for your support. So funny na we got to the point where we say "blah blah blah" just to control our emotions during rehearsals. I love how much you surprise us every scene kung anong gagawin mo and we just ride along."

"I appreciate our random talks about life (including your love life), your experiences, your favorite food, and so much more. You trusted me fully and I will always be grateful for that. You showed us who you really are behind the "veteran actor" people you know as, and we just loved you even more."

"I didn't expect to be so close to you. Thank you, thank you... I'm crying (again) as I compose this message because I realize this is it.. it's finally over. I won't get to see and hear you laugh every morning, I won't get to hug you as often, I won't be able to hear Nieva coming to me saying, "ano daw snacks mo, sabi ng lolo mo?"

"I won't be hearing Deej telling me, "Wag kung ano ano pinapakain mo kay Tito Ron!" Yan ka nanaman," I won't get to go to your dressing room just to hug you whenever I feel sleepy or moody, I won't be able to help you with your phone anymore whenever you get confused, I won't get to eat all the yummy meals with you as often. I won't get to do scenes with my favorite person anymore."

"As they always say, no goodbyes. The memories we shared for a year will always be in my heart. You know that I will always be here for you, right? Kung makulit si Ali, mas makulit si Kath. I will always protect you and check on you (bec we always want what's best for you). Seeing you happy make us all happy (I'm saying these on behalf of your "trusted circle.")"

"I love you so much, my lolo sir! Alipot and Kath are both lucky to have experienced this journey with you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Tito Ron.

'Lolo Sir' responds to Kathryn Bernardo's letter

On the same day, Ronaldo responded to Kathryn's letter on his Instagram. He posted:

"gracious, Kathie! Anu b yan? Aga-aga pinaiyak moko, kainis ka! Evrythng u said, ryt back at ya! All those feelings, I feel for u as well. I think dis is a mutual admiratio[n] society. You will now n forever be my very much luvd 5th apo. Know that u will always be in my [heart] coz ur special to me. Hugz and 1M kisses. Mwa mwa Tsup tsups [kiss emoji]"

The exchange of sweet words moved netizens, which made them miss not only the chemistry of the two stars but their grandparents as well.

4 ways to check on your grandparents

1. "You have no idea how much I appreciate that, Tito Ron."

Tell your lolos and lolas how much you appreciate all that they have done for you. Sometimes their love and care for us as their grandchildren appear like their responsibility, but it won't hurt to tell them that we appreciate everything that they are doing for us, no matter how small or big they are. 

2. "I appreciate our random talks about life."

Having lived through 50 or more years, our elderly family members have amazing stories to tell. They just need us to listen to them and learn from their experiences. If your grandparents are still with you, make time to talk to them even through phone or video calls. Listen to their stories, no matter how many times they have told you that. It will be their joy to know that you are just there to listen.

3. "I won't get to eat all the yummy meals with you as often."

If you can, take time to share meals with your grandparents. It has been proven to keep family relationships closer. If possible, make it a habit, like spending your weekends together to make new core memories not only for them but for your children as well.

4. "I will always check on you (bec we always want what's best for you)."

This part of Kathryn's letter reminds us how fleeting our lives are. Before it's too late, make that call or visit your grandparents while you can. 

For whatever small or big thing you do for your grandparents right now, they will repay you with a million kisses and hugs, like what Lolo Sir said.
