  • Their marriage may not have lasted "forever," but for sure, exes Martin Nievera, 55, and Pops Fernandez, 51, are doing a great job staying friends.

In fact, diehard fans of the couple will be glad to know that Martin and Pops again spent the last holiday season together in Manila, with grown-up sons Robin and Ram, and Martin's 11-year-old son Santino (with his former girlfriend, Katrina Ojeda).

“It was magical. One of the most magical New Year celebrations I’ve ever had!” he described the experience to Pep.ph.

“I checked Pops and her family in at the Solaire, while we had Santino in another room. And we all joined together for the countdown."

Earlier this month, Pops uploaded on Instagram a collage of family photos taken at Christmas time and during the new year countdown, and Martin and Santino were in a few of them.

Two of the most prominent stars of the local music industry in the '80s, Martin and Pops hosted the evening variety show "Penthouse Live!" which aired from 1982 to 1987 over GMA Network (now GMA-7). They eventually got together and wed in 1986. They separated in 1996 following reports of infidelity, and rumors circulated that Martin's relationship with Santino's mom was one of the reasons behind the couple's separation. In October 2000 their marriage was declared null and void.

It was in 2015 when Pops met Santino for the first time. She told Pep.ph then, "The feeling was, it felt good."

"Parang ito yung kinakatakutan ko noong araw. Yun pala, okey na," Pops said.

"And I know that feelings are healed already. Lahat ng wounds na open noong araw, I know that it’s already closed.”

Since then, the estranged couple has become more comfortable with their friendship, celebrating special occasions together, supporting each other's careers, even taking vacations abroad as a family, as they had done in the good old days.

Martin says it's true what Pops told him: 'I remember our days, but I only remember the good days.'

He sums up their love story perfectly by saying, “Men, if you put your wife and women through the hell that I put Pops through, and then she forgives you, then you know that love is really forever."
