  • Twenty-five years in January—that's how long actress Gladys Reyes and Christopher Roxas have been together, from the time they went "steady" to married status with four kids. But the two, who met on the set of Mara Clara, will be the first to tell you they don't have the perfect relationship. They have had their share of ups and downs—they even went through a separation before getting married.

How do they resolve their issues and get back into each other's arms? The secret, according to these two, is not just one thing. Marriage, after all, entails a lot of work, apart from the responsibility of raising four kids, Christoph, Aquisha, Grant, and Gavin Cale

On the morning talk show Magandang Buhay, Gladys and Christopher shared what helped them through the years.

First, according to Christopher, is communication."Siguro unang-una nag-uusap kami," the dad of four said. Coming from a broken family, he knows it's a big deal for kids that their family is intact.

Second is intimacy. Intimcacy doesn't only mean sex, but simple things, such as text messages "na nakakapagpakilig" or spontaneous dates when they have the time. "Kung walang time, gawan talaga ng time," Gladys stressed.

Third is don't waste time and energy on things you can't control. "'Pag may mga bagay na hindi natin kontrolado, 'wag mo nang pansisin," Christopher said, adding there is no use fighting over things you can't resolve and asking questions that have no answers. He suggested learning the art of letting go. "Dapat mablis ka mag-move on. Let go mo na kaagad para di mo na dinadala yung problems," he said.

The two also shared their take on some sticky issues that may plague some couples today.

    Who handles the money
It varies who's better at handling money, but Gladys had been doing it even before marraige.

When your wife has the bigger salary
Christopher admitted that Gladys earns more than he does, but it should not matter.

    Indulging in luxury items...
Kelangan mo ring maging masaya," Chrisopher said. Gladys, who bought a vintage Camaro as an anniversary gift for her husband, agreed and mentioned that when Typhoon Ondoy flooded their home, it made her realize life is short.

    Carving me-time after having kids...
Christopher stressed that it's essential. "Kasi dun ka mag-iisip e, dun ka nagrere-charge," he explained. For Gladys, it doesn't have to be grand. "Alam mo yung simple, quiet time lang alone, me-time na yun e," Gladys shared.

Gladys perfectly summed up in three words what makes their marriage work: "Prayer, patience, at partnership at eto, nandito pa rin kami."
