You’ve probably heard of the couple who went viral last month after getting married onboard a commercial flight to Boracay. But how exactly did they manage to make it happen?
Newlyweds Kristoffer “Topy” Rustia and Micah Cura are cabin crew members. They met and fell in love in the aviation industry in 2018.
“Nung nag-propose ako sa kanya last December 2020, napag-usapan namin na ba’t kaya ‘di tayo sa aircraft magpakasal since pareho naman tayong cabin crew,” shares Topy in an interview with Summit Video Originals.
They asked management whether they allow such events, including safety protocols and dos and don’ts for in-flight weddings. Surprisingly their request was approved.
“Talagang pinag-aralan ng management. Sila rin ‘yung gumawa ng way to make it happen,” Topy adds.
Topy and Micah only had one month to plan their wedding. It happened in a Manila to Boracay commercial flight with more than 130 passengers, 15 of whom were composed of friends and family. Yes, that meant more than a hundred attendees were strangers!
“Very special for us to, it’s a dream come true. Hanggang ngayon, surreal pa rin ang nangyari,” Micah shares.
While they thought that their wedding would somehow create a buzz — it’s the first wedding onboard a commercial aircraft in the Philippines, after all — they didn’t expect it to become viral. But they hope that their one-of-a-kind celebration would inspire other brides- and grooms-to-be.
“I hope we inspired other couples na believe lang. Akala rin naman namin na imposible na magkakaroon kami ng ganitong wedding. But as long as you have each other, extravagant man ‘yan or simple, intimate, basta ang importante love always wins,” says Micah.
