  • At first glance, Jomary Nuqui may seem like just any other regular guy in his twenties. But he's actually also a budding entrepreneur with big dreams.

At the height of the pandemic in 2020, Jomary started thinking of ways to earn extra money. That's when he thought of raising goats.

Making do with what he had

An Agriculture student majoring in Animal Science, Jomary is a staunch believer that agriculture is the key to the Philippines' prosperity. This served as his inspiration to start the business, apart from making his parents proud.

While Jomary had limited resources, this didn't stop him from making his business idea a reality. Thankfully, his discipline in saving helped him get started.

Using his savings of P11,500, Jomary was able to buy three goats, build a shed in their backyard, and complete the goats' initial supply of vitamins and medicine. In two years, he has grown his livestock to sixty heads.

What's a typical day like for a goat farmer?

Jomary tends to his herd as soon as he wakes up, checking if any of these are sick and bottle-feeding the baby goats. His day revolves around releasing the goats to graze freely at a nearby pasture and then herding these back to the shed.

Aside from this daily routine, Jomary especially enjoys when it's kidding season, or the time in the year when many female goats, also known as "nannies" or "does," give birth.

How much can you earn from raising goats?

Jomary earns at least P10,000 per month depending on how many goats he is able to sell.

Currently, he is focusing on growing his herd and he plans to eventually venture into goat's milk production as well.

To his fellow Gen Z entrepreneurs, Jeremy emphasizes the importance of being passionate about the business and being frugal. In fact, he even shares his life as a goat farmer on his YouTube channel, AgriZbo, which stands for "Agresibong Agrikultura Ng Henerasyong Z."

"Kailangan po nating mahalin yung ating ginagawa," he says.

Jomary also reminds fellow young farmers and aspiring young entrepreneurs that while starting a business may be challenging, it gets easier through perseverance and dedication.
