Attention, Freelancers: JobStreet Special Page Now Features Home-Based JobsIt could benefit around a million home-based job seekers in the Philippines
According to experts, there are now roughly around one million freelancers in the Philippines, most of whom are relying on jobs and projects offered online. The growth has created a domino effect in other industries as well. Financial technology firms and companies, including PayPal, have built services and tools dedicated only for freelancers.
With the growing demand for home-based jobs, online job marketplace site JobStreet.com has now also jumped into the trend as it launched a dedicated page for freelance work.
“With this new feature, we hope to make the search hassle-free for both the [job] candidate and the employer,” JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca said in a statement.
The page, which soft-launched in October, now has over a thousand job listings encompassing various industries from customer service to English language teaching. Some of the companies that advertise home-based jobs on the site include outsourcing site RemoteStaff, business process outsourcing giant Teleperformance, and online tutoring services 51Talk and goFLUENT.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Salaries offered are also comparable to 9-to-5 jobs, as some listings offer a monthly pay ranging from Php15,000 to Php25,000, or more.
The initiative may benefit thousands of Filipino employees who were recently found to be some of the least satisfied at work in the region, according to JobStreet.com’s 2017 Job Happiness Index. Based on a survey of 7,000 Filipino employees, job satisfaction rate fell to 4.97 from 5.25 last year. The same survey revealed that work location and schedule are some of the top contributing factors to the Filipino employee’s job satisfaction.
Still, Gioca cautioned that while working from home sounds inviting, those who have been corporate employees for a long time may find it difficult to adjust to a flexible schedule.
“Although most of us would want to work at home, there are still some points to consider before taking the final leap, such as your ability to hold yourself accountable to finish your work on time and your general temperament,” he said.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
