Baby Boom! 9 Labor and Delivery Nurses Pregnant at the Same Time!

Whoever said pregnancy is contagious may be on to something (after all, one study did explain how BFFs can possibly get pregnant at the same time), especially when you see this photo shared by a hospital recently. 

Nine labor and delivery nurses at Maine Medical Center are all pregnant! Is it a happy coincidence that they're all expecting to deliver their babies anytime between April and July of this year?

"Something is definitely in the water here at Maine Medical Center on the Labor and Delivery Unit!" nurse and expecting mom herself Brittney Verville wrote on her social media. Good Morning America and a lot of news outlets in the U.S. have reported on this viral post.

The photo showed eight out nine nurses — Brittney, Erin Grenier, Rachel Stellmach, Lonnie Souci, Amanda Spear, Samantha Giglio, Nicole Barnes, and Holly Selby — flaunting their baby bumps and holding their due date cards. One pregnant nurse couldn't make the photo shoot, so Nicole held the absent preggo's due date for her. Half of the nine preggo nurses are expecting their first child.

The hospital also shared the photo with the caption, "How’s this for a baby boom?" as a way of congratulating the soon-to-be moms. The preggos had a bit of luck on their side to have snapped a photo of all of them together even though they were all on different shifts.

The atmosphere in the hospital has been nothing but positive. "After each one of us started to say, 'We're pregnant,' I think it was a happier kind of announcement each time, and we're all there for each other," nurse Erin told WMTW.

The labor and delivery department in a hospital is perhaps the perfect place for the stork to set up shop. She has easy access to a doctor and if she needs anything, she has eight other moms who know exactly what she is going through.

"It's really nice coming to work and seeing other people who are just as pregnant and watching their bellies pop and just talking about these experiences that we are going through together," nurse Amanda added. "It's comforting knowing we'll be taking care of each other," Samantha told News Center Maine.

The nurses are in good hands, and the hospital has got it covered, too, once each of the nurses gives birth and takes time off work to care for their new babies. Only nine out of the 80 registered nurses currently working at Maine Medical Center's labor and delivery unit are pregnant (whew for the bosses, right).
