Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, shared his excitement in a blog statement: "I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on 'The Sign' in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that."
He continued, "I’ve always thought 'Bluey' deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together." Written and directed by Brumm, the film is a Ludo Studio production in collaboration with BBC Studios.
While details about the storyline are still under wraps, the film will "continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo." It also promises to deliver "the same charm and humor that made the TV series a global phenomenon."
Fans will be thrilled to hear that Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Bluey's parents, Chilli and Bandit.
The film is backed by BBC Studios, with additional support from the Australian Government's Producer Offset, Screen Australia, and Screen Queensland's Post, Digital and Visual Effects Incentive.
Disney will release the Bluey movie in theaters worldwide, followed by a Disney+ streaming debut. Australian audiences can also look forward to watching the film on ABC Kids and ABC iview after its theatrical run.
