Two passengers reportedly locked a crying child in a restroom during a flight to Shanghai, China. A video that showed them scolding the child has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred on August 24 aboard a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang to Shanghai.
The airlines' investigation revealed that the child, who appeared to be a year old and was traveling with her grandparents, cried for most of the flight. Two female passengers, who were strangers to the family, then took the girl to the restroom to "educate her." Meanwhile, the grandmother allowed this and waited outside the door.
The strangers recorded a video inside the restroom. One of them was sitting on the toilet and told the little girl, "We won't let you out unless you stop crying," as the child tried to reach the door. While the other picked up the child after she quieted down and warned, "If you make any noise again, we'll come back to the bathroom."
One of the women claimed her intention was to ensure a "restful flight" for fellow passengers. But the post faced backlash, with many social media users describing the women’s behavior as "inappropriate." The viral clip has since been removed from Douyin.
Despite the widespread criticism, the girl's mother appeared to support the strangers’ actions. The airline stated that they contacted the child’s parents, but the mother informed them that she had already learned about the situation from the grandmother. She also expressed her gratitude for the "assistance" provided by the two passengers.
Unfortunately, it's a common issue affecting both planes and trains. Recent reports reveal increasing disputes on high-speed trains in China over crying babies and unruly children, with passengers criticizing parents.
Handling a distressed toddler on a public transportation
When a child cries on a bus, train, or other forms of public transit, it can indeed be stressful for the parent and everyone else on board. Handling such situations thoughtfully is important, as it affects the child's behavior and the comfort of those around them.
