Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda recently shared a parenting moment online that resonated with many parents. In a lengthy post, the musician recounted how a small misunderstanding between his wife and their son the night before an academic competition prompted him to leave a handwritten note meant to explain a mother’s worry.

The story involved nine-year-old Miguel Alfonso “Migs” Miranda, the second child of Chito and his wife, entrepreneur and former actress Neri Naig Miranda.

In his Facebook post, Chito explained that the moment unfolded while the family was staying overnight at a hotel in Alabang ahead of Migs’ academic competition the next morning.

“This is a note I wrote for Migs a few nights ago. (Sorry kung pangit sulat ko... sobrang antok na ako nung sinulat ko ‘yan),” Chito began.

“We were staying at our favorite hotel for Miggy’s academic competition… maaga kasi ‘yung start nung competition the next morning and sa ibang school gaganapin so we decided to stay sa Alabang the night before,” Chito explained.

Before going to bed, Neri began double checking Migs’ things to make sure he had everything he needed for the event. That was when she noticed something important was missing.

“She realized na wala palang dalang ballpen si Migs...and as usual (and as expected), she panicked,” Chito said.

It turned out that the pencil case had been left in Migs’ school bag earlier that day when they switched cars. The discovery added to a small moment of tension earlier that evening. Neri had already pointed out that Migs’ uniform was still inside their luggage.

Luckily, there was a pen available in the hotel room. Still, Migs tried to calm his mother down.

“Relax, Mom. You're always like that,” he said.

The comment, Chito said, hurt Neri’s feelings. She became upset and eventually went to sleep. Migs quickly noticed the change in mood. “Migs looked at me na parang ‘nagalit yata si Mom’ na parang natatawa pero also obviously worried,” Chito explained.

That moment prompted him to write a short note to Migs before he went to bed.

Part of the note read:

“You got annoyed with mom because you felt she was overreacting… She got pissed because you said she’s always like that. But the truth is, she is. She worries about everything; your pen, your bulalo, your snacks, your Darth Vader cape. She’s like that because she’s your mom.”

Chito continued the note by explaining that Neri’s concerns stem from wanting to make sure everything is prepared for their son. “She wants to make sure na complete lahat for you, It’s not for her, it’s for you. And she felt unappreciated. That’s why nagtampo siya.”

He also reminded Migs about the effort parents put into preparing things for their children.

“She tries her very best to prepare everything for you.”

Many parents in the comments section said they could relate to the situation, noting how a mother’s worry often comes from a place of care and responsibility.

One commenter said, “A mother’s first reaction may sometimes seem like panic over the smallest things. It isn’t because we enjoy worrying—it's because we care so much.”

Another comment read:

“Hala bakit ako naiiyak dito? 🥹 Yes, we moms are like that. But behind that frustrations and worries is the love we have. We want to make things as seamless as possible. Ayaw namin kayo magkulang, ayaw namin kayo maging kawawa, ayaw namin kayo ang mag worry. Moms will be moms. Sisigaw [at] magagalit pero babawi at lalambing din after. 🥰”

Although Migs did not win first prize in the academic competition, Chito said the experience still offered a meaningful takeaway for his son.

“Anyway, Migs didn't win 1st prize, but I guess he still learned something that day... na sometimes we need to remind ourselves to appreciate the small things that our family does for us... kahit minsan nagkaka-inisan tayo hehe!”
