  • Coleen Garcia On Eating More To Breastfeed: 'Your Body Is No Longer Yours'

    by Rachel Perez .
  • Recovering from childbirth and learning the ropes of breastfeeding are two things every new mom goes through. New mom Coleen Garcia was warned about it but didn’t realize she had to do it simultaneously.

“Ang hindi ko lang naisip is ‘yung ipagsasabay sabay mo lahat. I am trying to learn how to breastfeed pero at the same time, nagre-recover din ako,” the first-time mama said during an interview with Toni Gonzaga for I Feel U

Coleen confirmed what every parent already knew: “From the day na nanganak ako, wala pa akong buong tulog,” she added. She gave birth to son Amari on September 10, 2020.

Breastfeeding is something Coleen planned to do ever since she got pregnant. As much as possible, she directly nurses Amari even if it means losing ownership of her body.

The actress revealed that she had to adjust to her new diet because she always needs to be eating. Her body uses what nutrients she has in her body to produce breast milk for Amari.

"Kailangan talaga kumakain. Kasi breastmilk stays the same, nutritious talaga no matter what. Pero kapag kulang, kinukuha talaga from my nutrition. So ako 'yung parang nanghihina, ako 'yung nakukulangan sa nutrition," Coleen said.

“Totoo ‘yung sinasabi din nila na your body is no longer yours,” the actress added.

How being a mom has changed Coleen

Having Amari changed her perspective on a lot of things. Since being a mom, Coleen has narrowed down what matters the most in her life.

“I focus on the things that matter now. Parang paliit ng paliit ‘yung mga things that are really important, ‘yung mundo ko,” she said. “I don’t have to look so far anymore to see what really matters to me. Nandito lang talaga sa paligid ko,” she added.

Coleen knows she’s not perfect, but she’s eager determined to learn. “As long as we have the attitude na we want to keep trying, we want to keep doing the best we can, then at least we will be doing better than we were yesterday,” she said.
