DepEd Approves Tuition Increase in 1,232 Private SchoolsMetro Manila has the most number of tuition hikesby Andrei Medina .
The Department of Education (DepEd) has approved tuition hikes in over 1,200 private elementary and high schools all over the nation for the incoming school year.
DepEd data showed these 1232 schools represent 10.21 percent of the 12,072 private schools in the country, Philstar reported.
“Schools that were approved for the tuition fee hike had undergone steps to ensure the increase is reasonable and in accordance with DepEd guidelines, which state that 70 percent of the increase must go to teachers’ salaries,” the DepEd said.
It added that as part of the tuition hike process, the schools submitted the required documents while consultations were also held between stakeholders.
Most of the schools where the tuition hike was approved are located in Metro Manila with 178 school approvals.
Regions 3, 4-A and 11 had 443 school approvals combined.
On the other hand, all the private elementary and high schools in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will maintain their current tuition fees.
According to the DepEd, only 280,000 of the country’s 24 million students are enrolled in private schools.
The list for private colleges and universities allowed to raise their tuition fees is also expected to be released this week.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
