Drew Arellano Wants His Kids To Travel Because It's The Best Form Of Education

When Drew Arellano was offered the project Biyahe ni Drew, the Kapuso host almost declined because of conflicts in schedules. He later on agreed to do the travel show after a few adjustments were made. Now, six years later, the dad of two is glad he said yes.

Because of his weekly show, Drew has a profound appreciation for travel and says it’s “the best form of education,” and would someday like for his sons Primo and Leon to experience the same.

“They can read books, they can probably learn from the teachers, but what’s priceless, what’s golden, is they actually experience different cultures firsthand, talking to different people from all walks of life,” the 39-year-old host told Pep.ph.

Moreover, traveling with the family become “happiness anchors” for kids when they grow up, experts say.

Primo, Drew and wife Iya Villania’s firstborn, is 3 years old, while their youngest son Leon is 1. The couple are planning to homeschool their children.

One of the reasons Drew almost turned down the project was because he didn’t want the job. He also had a few things going on career-wise, and did not fully comprehend how this project might benefit him.

“Initially, I didn’t want the job. I was working for Unang Hirit, the morning show, every single day.

“You got Monday to Friday, and then I had another show that I had to tape within that week.

“I had other businesses and then the travel show, they wanted to tape Saturday to Sunday.

“Of course, you know, parang hindi pumasok sa isipan ko na parang, ‘It’s a travel show, it’s all about having fun and, you know, going to different, really beautiful places in the country and around the world.’

“I just thought na Sunday is a family day.”

Drew has previously said that his schedule now as a family man is so much different from when he was single. “Wala na yung friendship time. For me that’s not an option right now. I have to be home by 7 pm,” he explained.

It’s a good thing he changed his mind. Six years of Biyahe ni Drew means he and GMA are doing something right.

“I’m so lucky to be here, you know, traveling, featuring different parts of the country—beautiful parts of the country—is just wow!

“Such a privilege sharing it to fellow Filipinos and other foreigners.”
