These Filipino Parents Are Among World's Richest, Based on Forbes

Forbes Magazine on Tuesday published its World's Billionaires List of 2024, an annual ranking of the wealthiest according to their total net worth based on their documented assets and other factors. Collectively, all the listed 2,781 billionaires are worth $14.2 trillion.

Topping the magazine's list is French businessman Bernard Arnault. Arnault, who is worth $233 billion, is the chairman of the LVMH conglomerate that owns luxury goods brands like Louis Vuitton. Coming in as the second richest in the world at $195 billion is Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and Space X. Then, Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos followed Musk at $194 billion. 

In the Philippines, 15 Filipino tycoons made the cut.

Manuel Villar Jr. (Rank: 190)

Real estate magnate Manuel Villar Jr. climbed to 190th on Forbes’ annual list, with his wealth boosted to $11 billion or around P619 billion in 2024. Villar is the lone Filipino billionaire who emerged in the Top 200. 

Villar's wife, Cynthia, and son, Mark, are serving as senators. The billionaire's other son, Paolo, is the President and CEO of Vista Land & Lifescapes. On the other hand, his only daughter Camille is a congresswoman in the family's hometown, Las Piñas. 

Enrique Razon Jr. (Rank: 224)

Ports and casino tycoon Enrique Razon Jr., with a net worth of $10 billion or P560 billion, placed as the second richest in the country. He has two children: venture capitalist Katrina and artist and filmmaker Enzo Razon.

Ramon Ang (Rank: 920)

President and CEO of San Miguel Corp., Ramon Ang, placed third with a net worth of $3.5 billion or P195 billion. Ang has eight children; his son, John Paul, is the president of Eagle Cement, while his daughter, Monica, is its finance officer. On the other hand, Cecille, oversees the family's Diamond Hotel chain.

Lucio Tan (Rank: 1330)

LT Group founder and chairman, Lucio Tan, joined the list with a net worth of around $2.6 billion. Tan's company is led by one of his four children, Michael.

Sy Siblings (Ranks: 1286, 1330, 1380, 1438, 1545)

The ultra-wealthy Sy siblings and children of late magnate Henry Sy, Sr. all made it to the list, though they were ranked individually. Hans Sy, Henry's 4th son, placed the highest among them with a net worth of $2.6 billion, followed by Henry Sy, Jr. ($2.5 billion), Herbert Sy ($2.5 billion), Harley Sy ($2.4 billion), Teresita Sy-Coson ($2.3 billion), and Elizabeth Sy ($2.1 billion).

Andrew Tan (Rank: 1623)

Having a net worth of 2.1 billion, Andrew Tan chairs Alliance Global, a holding company with interests in food and beverage, gaming, and real estate. He's a father to four children; his eldest, Kevin, is chief executive of Alliance Global and chief strategy officer of Megaworld.

Tony Tan Caktiong (Rank: 2152)

Founder and chairman of Jollibee Foods Corporation, Tony Tan Caktiong has a net worth of $1.3 billion. Tan-Caktiong, a household name in the world of business, is a father of three.

Lucio Co and Susan Co (Rank: 2410, 2545)

New to the Forbes' list are spouses Lucio Co (#2410 with $1.2 billion) and Susan Co (#2545 with $1.1 billion), who hold public firms such as Cosco Capital, Puregold Price Club, The Keepers Holdings, and Philippine Bank of Communications. Together, they have four children.

Lance Gokongwei (Rank: 2545)

Finally, President and CEO of JG Summit Holdings Inc. Lance Gokongwei made it to the list with a net worth of $1.3 billion. He's married to Jay Leong, with whom he has two children, Hannah and Jacob.
