(SPOT.ph) Looking up at the night sky is rarely a cause for enthusiasm in Metro Manila given the heavy pollution, but with the help of powerful projectors and telescopes, we might be able to get a good glimpse of the cosmos.
In celebration of World Space Week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will be hosting free planetarium shows and a stargazing session for the public on October 10 in Quezon City.
The planetarium shows will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PAGASA Planetarium in the Science Garden Complex. The Planetarium has an 88-seating capacity, with two different shows running at 45 minutes each. This state-of-the-art facility will provide an immersive opportunity for visitors to explore our own solar system as well as other distant galaxies through digital projections.
As night falls, the stargazing session begins at 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory in UP Diliman—if the weather permits. Expert astronomers will be available to guide visitors through constellations, planets, and other celestial wonders with the use of telescopes. Let's hope for favorable sky conditions!

Don’t worry if you can’t make it in the morning as there will be two planetarium shows—From Earth to the Universe and The Sky Tonight—on rotation until mid-afternoon.
Morning session
- 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.: From Earth to the Universe
- 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.: The Sky Tonight
- 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.: From Earth to the Universe
- 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: The Sky Tonight
Afternoon session
- 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.: The Sky Tonight
- 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.: From Earth to the Universe
- 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.: The Sky Tonight
