  • Do you have a resort reservation for Holy Week? There may be no need to cancel your booking just yet if it’s within the GCQ bubble and you currently reside in it. But restrictions still apply.

Staycations within the so-called “NCR Plus bubble” are allowed for the two weeks that authorities isolate the area from the rest of the country.

“Travel is not restricted within the bubble,” assured acting National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar in a briefing today, March 22, 2021.

The NCR Plus bubble includes the capital and surrounding Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna provinces, where there has been a steady and steep increase in the daily count of COVID-19 infections these past weeks.

Traveling within the bubble means you can proceed with your holiday plans if you live in Metro Manila and have already booked a stay in Laguna or Rizal next week.

Tourism is allowed inside the bubble subject to restrictions set by the Department of Tourism. Only immediate members are allowed to do leisure travel since mass gatherings are not allowed. Among these restrictions include the requirement for children 17 years and below and seniors over 65 years old to stay at home. Read here rhe rest of the restrictions.

But while travel within the NCR Plus bubble is open, expect to encounter police checkpoints in some key roads leading out of the quarantine zone and inside.

Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said quarantine control points inside NCR Plus check if travelers are following quarantine protocols and curfew restrictions.

Those set up in the roads leading to provinces outside the bubble will check if travelers are essential workers.

“All entry and exit of (NCR Plus) in private or public vehicles will be inspected (for compliance),” Malaya said.

Travelers only need to present an ID to prove that travel into the NCR Plus bubble is essential.

Those caught violating restrictions will be given “caution,” Eleazar said but didn’t elaborate.

“Arrests (for violation of protocols) are only made if there are other offenses,” he said.
