TV host-actress Jolina Magdangalgave birth to her second child, Vika Anaya, via C-section (CS) last May 28. She and her daughter were recovering well, thus were sent home on June 1, three days after the procedure.
Yesterday, however, the mom of two shared on Instagram how hard her road to recovery is, even if this isn't her first time to undergo a CS operation. She also revealed, "Ngayon naka under observation ako."
"As of today, mag-three days na nakakaramdam ako ng matinding sakit sa lower back at puson pag nag poopoo. Talagang matinding sakit," she said. Jolina says she didn't experience this after giving birth to son Pele Iñigofour years ago.
In the comments, Jolina described the pain as "grabe." It only happens when she moves bowels, and "Napapa-tiptoe ako at grabeng kapit sa kung ano man mahawakan ko dahil sa sakit," she wrote. She has ruled out constipation, which is why she informed her doctor right away.

This matter aside, the actress says everything is going well. Even with the sleepless nights, she and husband Mark Escueta are learning to work together to take care of their newborn daughter. Jolina added that she is taking it easy since having the surgery, as any woman who has just given birth should. "Hindi nga ako nagbubuhat at gumagalaw masyado, puro si Mark," she said.
A C-section is considered a major surgery. While numbness, initial redness and swelling, itchiness, and occasional spotting are to be expected after the procedure, there are red flags to watch for. The American Pregnancy Association advises women who have given birth via CS to call their doctor or rush to the hospital if they experience any of the following:
High fever
A severe headache that doesn't go away
Sudden shortness of breath
Sore, red, painful area on the breasts coupled with flu-like symptoms
Discharge from the wound, especially if it's foul-smelling
Sudden pain in the incision or abdomen area
Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
Severe vaginal bleeding that soaks a maxi pad within an hour
Burning urination or blood in the urine
The appearance of rash or hives
Swollen, red, painful area in the leg
If the incision wound opens

One of Jolina's followers suggested that she get herself checked for urinary tract infection (UTI), since a woman's postpartum body may be vulnerable to certain infections. UTI is one of the most common culprits, whether delivery was via CS or vaginally.
