DepEd lifts ban on field trips, releases new guidelines
The Department of Education has released new guidelines with regard to school field trips and other off-site activities through Department Order 66 issued on December 27, 2017.

The guidelines require that all plans for field trips be included in the annual improvement plan, with approval by the Divisions Head. "Hindi ito isang bagay na naisip mo lamang kalagitnaan ng taon; dapat kasama ito ng plano for 2018," DepEd Usec Tonisito Umali told ABS-CBN in an interview.

Moreover, the vehicles to be used for the activity should be strictly scrutinized and must not be older than 10 years since their manufacturing date. It was also emphasized that field trips have no grade equivalent, and that those who do not wish to join shall not be required to do a special project or take an exam in lieu of their participation. Most importantly, it requires that parents and school representatives be part of the planning, adding that parents cannot be forced to pay a fee for the said activites.

In February 2017, the Department suspended all field trips in all public schools for the rest of the school year following a deadly accident in Rizal where 13 college students were killed while on a field trip. (abs-cbn.com)
