Lea Salonga's only child, Nic Chien, just turned 19!
The Broadway star and Disney legend wrote a heartwarming message on Instagram to greet Nic, reflecting on how motherhood changed her life.
"This is the most precious human being in my little world. The one who captured my heart from the word go. The one that made me realize how insignificant my life was, until that initial piercing cry at 12:12 PM on May 16, 2006."

In her post, Lea shared how each milestone in Nic's life has continued to shape her as a mother. "With every step toward adulthood, my heart grows in ways I couldn't have predicted," she said, "That he is, with honesty and courage, growing into who he's meant to be makes me incredibly proud."
She ended her post, "Happy Birthday, my Nic!!! I love you to infinity!"
Lea Salonga and her child Nic's journey
In April, Lea opened up in an interview with People magazine about her close relationship with Nic and his transition. Nic came out as transmasculine at age 14 and has received unwavering support from both Lea and his dad, Robert Chien, ever since. He described his mother as a "fierce ally."
A long-time LGBTQ+ rights advocate, Lea shared in the interview, "You have to raise your child the way your child needs to be raised." Regardless of gender, she emphasizes her role as a parent, "I want to set my child up for success. I want my child to feel safe, strong, and ready to conquer the world on their own terms."

The proud mom and seasoned performer is not only watching her child grow into adulthood, but she's also about to share the stage with him. This August, Lea and Nic are set to star together in a local production of Into the Woods in the Philippines. Lea will play the formidable Witch, while Nic will play Jack. Acclaimed actress Eugene Domingo will play Jack's mother.
Nic, who has been performing in school plays since he was five, made his professional debut as Alice in Atlantis Production's Matilda The Musical in 2017. She was 11 then.
The production marks a meaningful milestone not just in Nic's personal and professional journey, but also in Lea's career as she performs alongside her son for the first time in a major theatrical production.
