Leni Robredo Recalls How Noynoy Aquino Looked After Her Children After Jesse’s Death"Nakakadurog ng puso ang balitang wala na si PNoy."by Kitty Elicay .
As news broke of former Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s passing this morning, June 24, 2021, netizens, politicians, celebrities, journalists, as well as friends and family shared their messages of condolences, including Vice-President Leni Robredo.
On her Twitter account, Leni mourned the loss of her good friend. "Nakakadurog ng puso ang balitang wala na si PNoy... He will be missed," part of her tweet read.
Nakakadurog ng puso ang balitang wala na si PNoy. Mabuti siyang kaibigan at tapat na Pangulo. He tried to do what was right, even when it was not popular. Tahimik at walang pagod siyang nagtrabaho para makatulong sa marami. He will be missed. Nakikiramay ako sa kanyang pamilya. pic.twitter.com/mqzrPKA6dr— Leni Robredo (@lenirobredo) June 24, 2021
On her personal Facebook account, Leni remembered Noynoy’s kindness, especially at the time of her husband, Jesse Robredo’s death in 2012.
“PNoy was Jesse’s friend since he first ran for Senator,” the Vice-President wrote, recalling that Jesse, the former Secretary of the Interior and Local Government during the Aquino administration, spoke highly of Noynoy. She shares that they’ve met previously a few times, “but always at a distance.”
When her husband’s plane went missing, that’s when Leni got to know Noynoy on a personal level. Apart from personally supervising the search and rescue operations in Masbate, Leni notes that the former president also took the time to go to Naga, where she and her girls were waiting for news about Jesse.
“He flew to Naga to see me and the children to explain to us how the search was progressing and flew back to Masbate in the morning of Aug 21, his dad’s death anniversary, when Jesse’s body was found,” Leni wrote.
Leni recalls Noynoy bringing Jesse’s body home and accompanying her in the embalming room when she insisted that she wanted to see her husband for the last time. She shares that Noynoy silently stood a few steps behind as she said her final goodbye.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Apart from being the former President, Leni mentions that since Jesse’s death, Noynoy made sure to look after her and Leni’s children, Aika, Tricia, and Jillian.
“He would always ask how each of the three is doing. Even after he stepped down, he would send over food that he thinks the girls would enjoy,” she says.
Leni ended her post by calling it her greatest honor to have worked with her friend. “It has been my greatest honor to have worked with him, even only for a while. It was a blessing to be his friend. Rest well, Sir,” she wrote.
