DepEd says no condom distribution yet
The Department of Education (DepEd) has not given the consent yet to the Department of Health (DOH) to distribute condoms in schools nationwide. In a report by the Philippine Star, DepEd says it still needs to study whether the proposal is "appropriate for basic education institutions and, if not, suggest other measures that can be explored without compromising the parents’ right to educate their children about pre-marital sex and the state’s mandate to protect minors from any form of abuse." In case it does get implemented, Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier noted to the news agency that the condoms will not be distributed "like leaflets in malls" and there will be proper counseling before it is given to students who can "understand and discern the issues."
