According to MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago, mall operators will be adjusting their opening and closing times to provide motorists with a little extra breathing room during the Christmas shopping rush. This comes following a meeting held earlier between the agency and concerned parties.
From November 5, 2018, until January 14,2019, all SM Supermalls, Ayala Malls, and Robinsons malls located along EDSA, Marcos Highway, Commonwealth Avenue, and C5-Libis will open their doors to shoppers at exactly 11am.
Closing times are entirely up to the mall operators' discretion, but Pialago said that the agency has recommended that they keep their doors open for as long as possible. "The later they stay open, the better," she said.
Other anti-traffic measures agreed upon during the meeting include adjusted loading and unloading areas; additional security and traffic-management personnel; and anti-colorum campaigns at terminals located near the malls.
The MMDA also recommended that companies promote carpooling among their employees. According to the agency, employers are encouraged to give incentives to personnel who practice carpooling.
