Around 2.5 million Filipinos in Luzon are still left without power, said Meralco in a press conference this morning, November 12.
This number is as of 10 a.m. Early today at 5 a.m., the number was pegged at more than 3.8 million affected customers. Most of the customers affected are those in Metro Manila.
The company is working hard to restore power for all affected persons, but asks the public to be "understanding" as the company prioritizes safety for its personnel and the public.
"We are currently restoring in areas....but in some flooded communities that continue to pose a challenge for us. We will not restore power in areas that we deem dangerous, both on the part of our line men and our customers," said Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga.
"Kailangan muna namin hintayin humupa yung tubig-baha bago kami magtrabaho. It is better to ensure safety before we restore electricity," he adds.
According to Zaldarriaga, though it is still hard to say when exactly power will be restored, he is hopeful that a big chunk of affected customers will have their electricity back tomorrow.
Meralco has also sent personnel to Bicol where millions are also left without power after the region was battered by three typhoons in as many weeks, although Meralco does not directly handle electricity in the Bicol provinces.
