  • Last November 1, U.S.-based Michelle Madrigal got real with her Instagram followers, sharing she was “not feeling like myself a lot lately.” On most days, the mom revealed she had “anxiety and some sort of depression.” She also said she wondered about the acting career she left behind in the Philippines more than three years ago.

“I haven’t been showing up as I should be for my family, myself, and supporters,” Michelle wrote. “I keep re-living things I no longer have or access to. Sometimes I wonder how my life would be right now if I didn’t pack my things and leave the ‘acting career’ I’ve always dreamt of.”

Through her post, Michelle wanted to tell other people, particularly women, who are having the same emotions that they are “not alone” and “don’t keep it inside.”

Michelle, who turns 31 today, November 4, 2019, moved to the U.S. state of Texas in January 2016 for what she called then a “culinary journey” at the hotel chain JW Marriott Austin. At that time, she had been in showbiz for 12 years, starting with her TV debut in ABS-CBN’s talent search, Star Circle Quest, in 2004. She then appeared in a few Kapamilya shows (Spirits, Vietnam Rose, Maging Sino Ka Man) before moving to GMA-7, where she starred in several drama series (Sine Novela: Tinik sa Dibdib, Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin, Adarna). She returned to ABS-CBN in 2015 to join the cast of the afternoon soap Pasion de Amor

While in the Texan capital city of Austin, the actress-turned-aspiring chef met and fell in love with a former football player and track star named Troy Woolfolk. They then had their daughter, Anika Austin, in October 2017 and tied the knot in April 2019.

Michelle said further in her post, “Having anxiety and some sort of depression pretty much lurks around 8/10 of my days because I miss being the badass woman I was once...don’t get me wrong, being a full time stay-at-home mom and running an online business is a luxury not a lot of us could have.

“But it isn’t for me, I can’t be creative when I have a wild toddler (crying, climbing and running around). Good for mamas who can do it all! But I need help. I need a tribe!”

Michelle’s mother Kaye Madrigal, who was part of showbiz in the 1980s as sexy actress Karla Kahlua, also lives in the U.S., but in the state of New Jersey. Her older sister Ehra Madrigal, likewise a former actress, remains in the Philippines. Michelle and Ehra’s father Gerry passed away in March 2018.

She added, “I seem to long for more ladies' night, ALONE time, and just to be away from home because of the anxiety and depression I feel (completely wanting to shut off my family). No one will ever fully understand until you experience it.”

And lamented, “It doesn’t help that I am not where I want to be in life at almost 31, but I know GOD brought me where I need to be.”

In closing, Michelle pointed out, “I just want to share what I am going through because you are not alone! We’re all human, and we have the right to feel and get stuck at times. Whether you are going through a big transition in life or simply experiencing anxiety or stress about life/work/family...don’t keep it inside! Talk to someone, cry if you must, and move forward like a real bad a** woman that you are! ”
