The Philippines got an early Christmas present as Catriona Gray was crowned Miss Universe 2018. As we celebrate our country’s fourth Miss Universe crown, we’re sure there are two people who are over the moon and beaming with pride — her parents.
In a clip shared by journalist Dyan Castillejo on Facebook, Catriona’s parents, Ian Gray and Normita Magnayon-Gray, were overcome with emotion as host Steve Harvey announced the winner. The two wiped away tears of joy and accepted well wishes from fellow spectators as Catriona took her first walk as Miss Universe.
“She was the chosen one,” Daddy Ian exclaimed in a video uploaded by GMA News. The proud parents shared they knew she could win the competition. Are you in for a little trivia? Makeup artist Memay Francisco revealed via her Instagram Story an interesting tidbit as to why Catriona chose to wear a red gown for the pageant. Memay wrote Catriona’s mom dreamt that her daughter won Miss Universe wearing a red gown!
“When @catriona_gray was a child, @mitagray dreamt that Catriona won Ms. Universe wearing a red gown. Here she is now. Proud to be Filipino! #missuniverse #missuniverse2018” the post reads.
Though Catriona moved to the Philippines after finishing high school in Australia, she has maintained a close relationship with her parents.
